A legal question about impeachment

I am not a legal expert. Perhaps there is someone out there who can answer this question. AFTER the House impeaches Trump, do they legally have to then turn it over to the Senate for “trial”? How about just leaving it in the House so the so-called Senate “trial” won’t interfere with the next election? After all, we all already know what the “verdict” of the Senate would be.

I remember how wrong I was about RMN's potential to be convicted by a GOP controlled Senate.

RMN knew they'd take him down.

but by fall of '72 he was going to go down. With a solidly Republican Senate that a year earlier claimed it was all a nothing burger petty robbery. He won re-election under an impeachment investigation.

And Nixon had actually proposed a wide series progressive programs including the EPA, ended the draft, oversaw the passage of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and the Mammal Marine Protection Act, dedicated a $100-million to begin the war on cancer, a campaign that led to the creation of national cancer centers and antidotes that helped fight the deadly disease, opened the doors for women in collegiate sports when he signed Title IX in 1972, a civil rights law preventing gender bias at colleges and universities receiving Federal aid, initiated and oversaw the peaceful desegregation of southern schools, proponent of the 26th Amendment, Nixon lowered the voting age from twenty-one to eighteen, extending the right to vote to America’s youth, authorized the joint work between the FBI and Special Task Forces to effectively eliminate organized crime, resulting in over 2500 convictions by 1973, became the first President to give Native Americans the right to tribal self-determination by ending the policy of forced assimilation and returning their sacred lands.

Nixon avoided a second Cuban Missile Crisis involving the Soviet submarine base by adhering to his policy of hard-headed dètente, an active rather than passive form of diplomacy, in reaction to the oil embargo of 1973, Nixon initiated Project Independence, which set a timetable to end reliance on foreign oil by 1980, established a new relationship with the Middle East, eliminating Soviet dominance in the region, Nixon announced a groundbreaking foreign policy doctrine that called for the United States to act within its national interest and keep all existing treaty commitments with its allies, first President to visit the People’s Republic of China, where he issued the Shanghai Communiquè, announcing a desire for open, normalized relations. The diplomatic tour de force brought more than a billion people out of isolation, signed the Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty, helping to calm U.S.-Soviet tensions by curtailing the threat of nuclear weapons between the world’s two superpowers, participated in the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT) with Soviet Secretary General Brezhnev as part of an effort to temper the Cold War through diplomatic dètente.

Trump will go down. It may seem a slow process but it is unstoppable. And he's done not a single good thing for us.

Hell, Nixon worked with Teddy Kennedy to try to bring about a single payer health care system to the US. Trumps trying to kill us!

Anyone who thinks this was a paean to Nixon is badly mistaken. He was a defective soul and he needed removal.

And trump even more so. The GOP (what there will be of them after Nov 3, 2020) will come along to that conclusion, too, if it really needs to go that far.
