This isn't just Pearl Harbor Day.

The attack on Pearl Harbor is what our government chose to emphasize.

On December 8, 1941 (Pearl Harbor was the only target on the other side of the International Date Line), Japan bombed, attacked, and/or invaded:

Singapore
Thailand
Philippines

and, if I remember correctly, as many as 5-6 other Pacific targets under US and British authority.

I highly recommend "How to Hide an Empire: A History of the Greater United States" by Daniel Immerwahr, associate professor at Northwestern University.

The introduction alone, which addresses the attack on Pearl Harbor and other targets, is worth it. If you appreciate having your perspective shifted, sometimes radically and unexpectedly, this is a book for you. It's definitely not what you learned in your grammar and high school US history classes.
