Talk about a really hopeless addict...

This woman deserves a life sentence, as is, drunks in jail will make their own booze by hiding plastic bags with fruit in them, letting the fruit ferment for a time.

The first day they get out of jail? (I've seen this myself...)
Straight to a bar.

Woman charged in fatal Md. crash after 92 mini liquor bottles found in car

DUNDALK, Md. (WMAR/CNN) - A 30-year-old woman, who allegedly admitted to drinking for hours prior to the accident, is charged in a deadly crash that took the life of a Maryland teenager.

Jennifer Jones, 30, is charged with negligent manslaughter in the death of 15-year-old Trinity Brooks. The suspect allegedly drove onto a sidewalk Tuesday evening and hit Brooks just blocks from her Dundalk, Maryland, home.

(snip)

According to the documents, officers found heroin in Jones’ jacket and heard her say “I’m drunk” an hour and a half after the crash.

During a search of her rental car, officers found two empty bottles of Fireball whiskey, 92 mini bottles of liquor and marijuana.

And I just read about two women who let a baby swallow heroin, and just shrugged it off until the baby died.

Addicts rarely stop for good. The best one can hope is that they are contained.

He had been in and out of prison all his life. At my uncle's funeral I didn't recognize him; even though he was almost ten years younger than I was, he looked 20 years older. It was the last time I saw him.

The day my uncle was buried, he broke into my uncle's house, forged his signature on a check, and bought enough drugs that he died from them.

Addiction is a disease.

Period.

The vitriolic responses evidenced in this thread are among the reasons why addicts have so much difficulty finding help. Many addicts are unable to afford the $30-$40-$50K for some for-profit addiction treatment that works no better than what the government offers. The difference is in availability. If you have money you get treated.

I am in no way defending the terrible things mentioned in this thread.
