(34,661 posts)30% of your Student's are Homeless. That should shock the shit out of this Country. Factoid, here in the Clark County School District we estimated School Student homeless number to be at least 10% . Reality=334k Students,do the friggin math. We are the second largest School District in the Nation. When your Local Economy depends on Tourist, the Reality soon appears as a mega elephant.

(8,419 posts)One of the problems with Phx (mainly the west side) is that they just continue to expand out into the wide open desert. So the inner city neighborhoods get abandoned as people move just a bit further north, or west, or east. other than the Central core, most working class neighborhoods see massive flight as the original residents move outward.
If you think Detroit and Cleveland are managing massive problems, just wait for what is coming to Phoenix. The uncontrolled expansion along with climate change and the reliance of retirees is going to cause Phoenix and most of the west side to implode in twenty to thirty years. Unlike Detroit and Cleveland, there is very little civic pride so huge portions of the city will become wastelands.
Retirees in places like Sun City (NW valley) have almost zero ties to the area, and the solution will be to starve the city of tax funds while they build bigger walls around their community.

Do you want to build your tax base on those with no earned income?
There's a reason Sun City, last I checked, had no schools.

That being said, never understood the thought process they retirees don't have to pay for schools, etc.
They overuse libraries, fire and police, their own kids mainly went to public schools funded by all. But now they get a pass and don't have to pay for schools?
Very selfish, very FU "I got mine, screw the next generation."
