For some reason I started thinking about Tim Russert this morning

I was just wondering what he would think about the Trump as president. I know his son definitely does not agree with Trump. I checked his twitter feed awhile back and that was pretty clear. However, I remember how excited his father was about politics. I always wonder what he would have thought if he was alive to see Obama become president. Also I wonder what he would think about our politics now and if he could have influenced how things were covered during the last election.

His famed "Russert Test" (if you can survive an hour of Russert, you’re vetted) was utterly defenseless against people willing to unabashedly lie.

Cheney and others would shovel complete horseshit, and he was incapable of hitting back. Even when he had the same people on later, he never pointed out how much a load what they told him before was.

And I don't care if his kid does not agree with Trump. That marks Luke Russert as "at least as smart as a treestump", but he's even less of a prize.

To me, it seemed that Tim Russert knew when Dick Cheney and the other lying Repukes were lying to him. Russert wasn't stupid and his shows were well-researched. But he gave them passes - continually - so that he could book them again whenever he needed a Repuke on his show. Chuck Todd does pretty much the same thing these days.

...as does Chuck, following Tim's example.

Both of them ran/run a show that purports to help put things in perspective, and once upon a time in a now-distant century it did, but in this century better journalism was done by a comedian whose show came on after one featuring crank-calling puppets.

He has been rather outspoken about Trump administration since he left his job.
