Do we have a defense against "swift boat/e-mails" tactics?

Last edited Mon Dec 9, 2019, 02:28 PM - Edit history (1)

I haven't seen one yet. Kerry and Hillary behaved in the best ways possible. Kerry taught us that you shouldn't just ignore them. Hillary taught us that keeping your cool while not ignoring didn't work either. Biden has yet to be really hit. Wait for the senate trial. Maybe showing genuine emotion will work. Nothing else has.

What's going to become of democracy if all the opposition had to do is make up something and repeat it over and over?

Ideas?

Edit: I also posted this in response #8.

While out on my daily walk I came up with this:

When a "sift boat/e-mails" attack has been identified, the appropriate web site (primary candidate's or Dem nominee's or DNC) creates a page that lays out all known facts and rebuttals to all known (psuedo) arguments. When any Dem is questioned about the issue, they explain that they don't want to play the Republicans game and take up time with this, but the questioner can go to www.<websige>.org to get answers to their questions.

What do you think? I'm sending this idea to my congress person and senators.

You beat down Nazis, you don't appeal to their better angels.

but I know the normal rules don't apply with the GOPee anymore and they should not apply ever again.

This isn't business as usual.

We'll definitely need a grown up to clean up this GOPee mess, and they'll have to be willing to get their hands dirty.

We need to attack Trump’s camp so hard their phony attacks become background noise.

And thankfully, Trump is so monumentally crooked we’ve got plenty to work with.

Maybe that's the solution?
Don't forget the other contributing variables. The post 911 hyperpatriotism was essential to the effectiveness of swiftboating Kerry. 30 yrs of investigations and being closely associated with someone who lied to us was essential to stoking doubts about Clinton. Biden's name is readily paired with Trump in his demeanor and relationship to suspicion. It's a vulnerability we would be foolish to overlook.
