He is right that history will not be kind...but only if we get through the present in one piece... otherwise they will be the ones to write history.
These cowardly wankers have backed themselves into a far right corner of nasty. Thing is I think they rather enjoy living there and even if they were given a get out, I doubt they would take it. Power is all, afterall.
Far right wankers still be far right wankers, through time and space.

(3,330 posts)There are certainly similarities to Nazi Germany, but I would encourage people on the side of truth and democracy to distinguish themselves from their political enemies. IMHO.
I can't agree more with the quote from Robert Reich.

(46,020 posts)In 1987 I visited Germany to see a friend. He was an American born of two German parents who had repatriated to Germany. He spoke German without an accent. He was even a Jaeger (Royal Huntsman).
Two things I witnessed:
1. Where I was staying, the head of the household showed me his collection of Nazi memorabilia that he kept hidden in his cellar, under glass like a museum. Not for sales purposes. It was to remember the "good times" of the country.
2. My friend, the Jaeger, took me to a Jaeger party, held in the middle of the woods. The participants sat at picnic tables and ate and drank beer while the Jaegers blew their horns to Medieval tunes, so I thought. Then the men started singing lustily. My rudimentary German translated the words into what I'd call Hitler "fight songs." My friend, who was drunk, yelled out there was a Jew sitting at the table. And they all stopped singing, talking, laughing and looked at me. I thought I was going to never leave the woods. It obviously didn't work out that way.
My point: Here were the sons of Nazis who were still enamored to the memory of Hitler and if they had any political majority or enough of them to take over the streets for their goals again, they'd do it.

An understatement, if anything. Power is McConnell's drug.
McCaskill goes on: "So he wants to protect his members more than anything, forget about whether or not the president should be impeached, ...protect his vulnerable Republican senators so he holds onto his majority..."
This is hardly new info, of course, but I love Claire McCaskill. Her senate loss was a real talking head gain. She interjects valuable insights into hours filled with the typical safe groupthink restatements ad nauseam.
