Resigning Republican lawmaker Duncan Hunter flew pet rabbit around using campaign funds: report
The late 1970s had President Jimmy Carter and the Killer Rabbit. Now the late 2010s have Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter and the high-maintenance hare.
Hunter, who represents California, plans to resign after the holidays in the wake of his guilty plea on federal corruption charges last week. His more than $200,000 in misappropriations, in which he used campaign funds for personal expenses, included flying a pet rabbit around to the tune of $625, CNN reported.
“It has been an honor to serve the people of California's 50th District, and I greatly appreciate the trust they have put in me over these last 11 years,” Hunter said in a statement obtained by USA Today.
He announced his resignation last week, and a House Ethics Committee report released Monday sealed the deal, detailing the rabbit and other expenses including video games, a vacation to Italy and groceries, according to CNN. This was on top of expenses related to his five mistresses.
