So McConnell wants to hold USMCA hostage so the impeachment trial can be depicted as the obstacle to a bipartisan trade deal. So the turtle is a snake.

It will not be some panacea for our economic problems. Our economy will continue to leave most people behind, and people will be looking for someone/something to blame -- might as well go on the record as opposing this trade deal because otherwise you will be forced to defend it in the future when it still leaves us with the same problems we face today.

12. The last NAFTA was a Republican

idea that GHWB couldn't get passed because Democrats wouldn't support it. Then when Bill Clinton got elected he managed to get enough Democratic votes to get it passed. The Republicans have hung NAFTA around Democrats neck for over 20 years. In that time we have lost millions of good UNION manufacturing jobs and blue collar support. Democrats need to turn the tables now and hang that agreement around the Republicans neck. If Democrats think it is good give them just enough votes to get it passed but let them own it.

15. From what I heard, the Dems got AFL-CIO and environmental groups on board.

Not perfect, but there's supposed to be more robust environmental, labor protection/fair labor enforcement, Heath and safety monitoring in the legislation than was in NAFTA.
There does need to be some form of trade regulations and agreements in place, and it sounds as if this attempt is better for workers and the economies involved than the previous trade agreement.

The repubs will spin it that Nancy Pelosi timed the impeachment to keep them from approving the trade bill, and it's all her fault and she did it on purpose. Their base will buy that hook, line and sinker.
