Not just incompetence but all the laws he has broken and all the indictments and criminal investigations. We all know how totally incompetent and corrupt he is on an epic level because we watch the mainstream news, however millions only see Fox News and have little idea of what an insane, buffoon he is.
Will the bombardment of horrific reality that is Trump change some minds or not? Maybe some not so hardcore Trump supporters? The type of folks who went ahead and voted for him but don't pay much attention to the news etc. Somewhat reasonable folks who are usually disengaged.

(45,806 posts)in Calif, and hearing a lot of people here in Red State Georgia, I think I understand where the true trumpers are. I still disagree, but I understand. He gave them what they wanted, RW judges, the SCOTUS, restraints on business gone, all that EPA stuff that they don't want, & he's getting rid of all those damn brown people. They overlook his lies & law breaking because they're happy.
With me neighbors, I even argued about why they hate the Mexicans. I asked them how they felt about all the vegetables rotting in the fields because our Governor clamped down on undocumented people. They said they weren't worried, next season, there would be enough Georgians pick the crops, we don't need the Mexicans.
I gave up. NOTHING I can possible say will change their mind.

(31,811 posts)The 62 million who voted for 45 are with 45.
I'm focused on the 71 million voters who did NOT vote for Trump.
4.8 million votes were cast for Johnson/Weld. 1.4 Stein.
There's votes in them thar hills.

(11,495 posts)People seem to forget about those who "didn't" vote last time. I think a majority of them just thought that there was NO WAY someone as terrible as trump could win. I don't think they will make the same mistake this time.

(58,647 posts)It is frustrating. As a fellow Washingtonian, it sucks to see all those red states falling for the Trump crap sandwich. Sucks to know that there are so many Trumplodytes right here in our home state.

(3,784 posts)They are gone. Forget them. But luckily, they're only about 20% of the population. What I'm hanging my hat on in this election are the vast swath of voters who voted for Trump in 2016 (or who didn't vote at all because they didn't like either one) but have now seen the error of their ways. And trust me when I tell you, I've talked to A LOT of these people.
I get the appeal of 2016 Trump. He appealed to a large group of voters looking for a fresh face with an "outsider's" mentality who would come in and shake things up. I understand that appeal because I was (and still am) one of those people looking for someone to come in do things "out of the box." It's the reason why Ross Perot appealed to so many people back in 1992 (the difference being, Perot's voters weren't enough to put him over the top, whereas Trump's voters combined with his cult following to create a group big enough to win). Unlike many of them, though, I did enough research and critical thinking to realize that Trump was NOT that person. What I'm saying is that I think that a lot of the people who wanted an "outsider" who would come in and "clean up the swamp" now realize that Trump isn't that guy too, and will turn against him.
I also know a lot of people (more people than I can believe, actually, including members of my own family) who just plain didn't vote at all, mainly because they "didn't like either one of them." I think the vast majority of the "sit this one out" voters have now seen the error of their ways and will re-enter the fray in 2020. And between the two groups I mentioned, I would bet you're talking about a significant vote swing. That's why I truly believe that as long as the election is LEGITIMATE (and I have zero faith that it will be), we win this one handily. It's the Russian hacking that will be the downfall of this country, and it's literally something we as common folks can do nothing about when the people tasked with protecting us..........won't.

(16,616 posts)It's not easy to do. They have to recognize they've been betrayed. But their investment in Trump is so great that getting them to recognize this is very difficult, especially now that Trump appears to be "under assault." The commitment of the follower tends to rise if they perceive their Leader-God as under attack.
