General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI guess I'm about to post something "not nice". I have never been a fan of the phony
"collegiality" that we hear referenced again and again during these hearings---"my respected colleagues across the aisle"; "the gentleman from Georgia"
That "gentleman" and those "colleagues" have just spent hours lying through their teeth in order to protect the racist incompetent pathological liar who has spent every day of the past three years attacking our democracy with a wrecking ball. He exists and persists only with their support and their participation in his crimes. It matters not whether they are truly evil or "merely" ignorant. They are all complicit.
I do not respect them. I do not like them. I do not see that changing---ever.
I do not expect out Reps to refer to Mr. Collins as "Bubba" or Mr. Gohmert as "the twit from Texas", but the " my colleague" references really clang, given the gleeful depravity in which the Republicans are engaging for the purpose of shielding Trump from the fate he richly deserves.

(42,649 posts)I was always polite. I saw it as a reflection on me, and the people that I represented.
As to my private thoughts about some of the people I dealt with, I shared them with my wife.

(10,721 posts)...is what I was getting at in this particular post: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100212757711#post27.
They lie constantly. They engage in race-based voter suppression and gerrymandering. They collude with foreign governments. They have more rubles than scruples. They care more about getting the backing of the NRA than about saving lives. Republican is synonymous with hypocrite. They are actively harming people and planet. They foment and exploit racism, sexism and just a general ignorance. They're truly horrible people.
I don't see how we can fight back against the "both sides"/false equivalency bullshit until Democrats start taking every opportunity to publicly make clear that there's virtually no greater threat on this planet than the Republican Party of the United States.

(42,649 posts)But in the venue of the Committee, to engage in the same behavior is pointless. One cannot both criticize the rude behavior and engage in it.

(10,721 posts)...being horrible people, though that's pretty well supported by all of the factual statements that preceded that comment.
Fine, don't say those sorts of things on the floor of Congress. But they need to be said. By Democrats. On the air. Every single day.

(10,721 posts)Corruption, lying and ignorance are epidemics, which are truly endangering us all.
What we're witnessing is a clear and present danger. No joke. This is madness run amok.

(42,649 posts)but if 2018 and 2019 have shown, the GOP is losing elections all over the country.

And every last Republican Party Member and Republican Senator is helping Putin in any way they can.
THERE IS NO FEC, Mitch effectively neutered them by not appointing a new member to make a quorum, the FEC is DEAD IN THE WATER
They can't vote or decide on anything without a quorum......
Mitch also took care of the three agencies of the Fed. Gov't that were actively investigating election tampering BY DEFUNDING THEM....

(58,785 posts)and conventions that help that are for the best. As it is, those people are not in the least mislead into misunderstanding what's happening, and there is more no hypocrisy to it than there is to nodding distant acknowledgement of someone's presence.
Just don't listen if you can't take it as intended.

(2,199 posts)It keeps the actual discussion rolling along. The fact that we even see them violating the rules of order by interrupting, talking on, etc.
When that last wall of decorum crumbles, you will know that they have finally lost. But by that time, I doubt well be talking.
