I just don't get it.

I know Dump will probably survive the Senate vote and not to mention, forever ruining Home Alone II. And I get some GOP Senators are holding out for the election to remove the SOB...even if it means they might lose control of the Senate. Unless a few Senators go rogue...if that happens, I'm going to Vegas and betting everything on green and buy the insurance in Blackjack.

But eventually, all the shit will come out and history will not be kind. They have to think, their descendants will say "this is our family shame, your grand father voted to keep one of the worst presidents in history in office". Add to that, remove Trump, you get Pence and rubber stamp legislation and force Pelosi to make compromises. Granted for a limited time, but what could be better than that? It would make life for them severely better for them and they can "sell" the legislation as beneficial back home.

This leads me to three conclusions.

1. They are in denial and think they can regain control of the house, and thereby the government...by using the impeachment as a club.

2. They want to go back to being the minority party as its easier, (after they got their judges firmly in place...looking at you John Adams) while the party figures itself out, sheds itself of the Devin Nunes, Lou Gohmert, etc. And comes up with new ideas as Reagan is now ancient history.

3. This is the worst...and probably true. They are in it for themselves and only for themselves. Offshore they are getting paid considerably in some Afghan or Iraqi bank safe deposit box.

One of the things that killed off the Romanov Dynasty (and I'm no fan of the Romanov's) was placing the responsibility of modernizing the Russian Army in the hands of a Noble who had every vested interest in not modernizing the Army and keeping the status quo. Yeah, he made a lot of money...but when WWI happened, instead of Russia steam rolling over Germany as it should have if they modernized...they brought knifes to a gun fight.

4. Bonus; Are we delusional? Has the country gone down the rabbit hole? Macron is pushing for a continental European Army devoid of the USA....which means the end of NATO and our bases there....which means, they see us as threat rather than ally. And it won't end there, what did Putin promise Japan on the Northern Territories? Or to Turkey?

Are we so tunnel visioned on our own domestic issues, we don't see that the world is passing us by? Are the GOP leaders not in denial but in delusion?

1. You didn't include the most likely main reason: kompromat. Russia has almost certainly

provided Trump with kompromat to use as leverage over most of the Republicans.

...being in it for themselves. If Russia has kompromat on them, they allowed it to happen because they were busy trying to score off their position of power.

With that said, doubt Moscow has kompromat on every GOP Congress member (but hey, I have been wrong before)...which means they have kompromat on the leaders...which is not comforting. Why? You have to think they have the ability to "retire to spend more time with the family". If that is not an option, then, they are really screwed....which means, were in Rome.

4. Actually, delusion and denial usually occur together. The reTHUGS are cultists and that

involves a particular psychosis/psychopathy. Which, come to think of it, would probably respond to
medical/psychiatric treatment.

The smarter ones, embrace denial.

The rest...uhm, yeah.

6. If your premise is, as your second paragraph suggests,

based on everything coming out in the history books, then I think the premise is flawed.

History as we know it is filled with good guys who weren't very good and bad guys who weren't bad. Research is constantly turning up to demonstrate that, without changing any (or very, very few) minds. Take Columbus (and you are welcome to him as far as I am concerned.)

History is written by the winners. And if we don't take back public education, and specifically curricula and textbooks, we are not going to be the winners.

Are you looking to the future to see Hillary Clinton vindicated? Ain't gonna happen. I wish it would, but it won't.

And with Congress - without looking it up, can you name one person who was in Congress in 94 and not on any committee? I an't. McConnell's name may be remembered for a while But so many people don't care now that what he is doing is unconstitutional, how many will care even twenty years from now?

I realize I'm being a downer, and I'm sorry I feel it's necessary.

7. Narcissism, denial and delusion
Sun Dec 15, 2019, 05:52 AM
Dec 2019

often leads to self destructive behavior, which we are seeing in spades in the Republicans. From Trump to McConnell to the House Real Housewives, they are all so lacking in self awareness it is a circus of pathology.

It will not end well. I fear the country will take more than a generation to recover, if it ever does. If I were 10 years younger or had a devoted partner, I'd be looking for an opportunity to get out. Since that is not the case, I will do what I can to promote the election of a Democratic president in 2020 and a Democrat to replace Tillis as Senator from NC where I live . I hope that enough people in this country will recognize our peril and participate in the 2020 election to rid ourselves of Republican control.
