He didn't have the same "baggage" as HRC and he would have had better turnout IMHO, although much of that "baggage" for HRC consisted entirely of totally unfounded and crazy right-wing smears. Even three or so years after the election, people are still sharing memes intimating if not outright stating that Hillary "suicided" Jeffrey Epstein. I had a FB friend- who is not even a right-winger- casually joking about Hillary "suiciding" her.

The one hint of danger for Democrats in 2016 was the polling on the direction of the country. It is interesting that the people comfortable with the direction of the country was not good - just as it was not good for most of Bush's second term.
