The Court can - and would very likely - jail and/or fine them StarfishSaver Dec 2019 #11
It wouldn't even come to that. Mazars will produce the docs as soon as they're told to. The Velveteen Ocelot Dec 2019 #13

Then Mazar's Accounting Firm will release them. The Orange One will have zero input at that point. No way will they withhold the information, no matter what the idiot says! YAY!

and not have any of their execs in jail for contempt of court. They will cough up the records, count on it.

who would be in charge of fining them. The DOJ under Trump? Who would enforce the fine?

They will be in direct Contempt of Court and the judge would not hesitate to put them in jail.

I have no doubt if the Mazars are ordered to comply, they'll comply.

And there's nothing Trump can do to them if they do, except rage-tweet and hire another accounting firm. He probably owes Mazars money anyhow, since he tends not to pay people who work for him.

They're probably more than happy to turn his records over and let him deal with the consequences. They probably just wanted to be sure he didn't drag them into court and keep them there until they went out of business.

As for the SC siding with Trump, that's what I expect. 5-4 in Trump's favor. It's a sad, sad day when we're counting on John Roberts to do the right thing.

If a bank or accounting firms refuses to hand over documents they can be fined, shut down, officials jailed. If supremes permit the subpoenas the documents will be turned over.

The subpoenas were directed to third parties, his accounting firm Mazars and Deutsche Bank. They will turn over the documents if the Supreme Court says they have to, no matter how much Fat Nixon gripes and whines.

The ruling would be for MAZARS (accounting firm) to release the tax returns.... and Trump would have no ability to prevent them from doing so.
