A state with 35 million people, a state consistently held hostage by states with a 16th of our population. States that have a negative contribution to the federal government. This country is NOT theirs. It is ours, I am really friggin tired of the lowest common denominator calling the shots that are dismantling democracy and celebrating stupidity. /rant

(153,150 posts)it's just that it should be no more THEIRS than it is OURS......I agree, it is ridiculously unbalanced. For example, the Electoral College had its place back in the day but now with the internet, it should be POPULAR VOTE ONLY.....it is backfiring and giving us NITWIT "presidents"

(32,829 posts)In cages. One that celebrates bigotry, hatred and stupidity. A country that bans Muslims from entering. One that highly desires a monarch who is not subject to laws and does not value anything but his own desires. One who investigates political opposition.
With all due respect, its not a place I call America. The founders would not recognize this place.

(7,408 posts)Are you saying federal income tax dollars collected from individual US citizens in a rich populous state shouldnt be redistributed to less populated and poorer states for the greater overall good of all citizens?

(7,408 posts)Why would citizens in poor, less populous states not have any say in what happens with the federal tax dollars they have equal claim to?

I'm from the #1 donor state, where the adjusted poverty line is nearing $28K a year.
We give $32 Billion in taxes to other states, which is more than our state's budget. No other state does that.
Our roads are getting shitty, we have pockets of extreme poverty and areas that we need to bolster, but those billions are going elsewhere, to other states who punish the poor, cut their funding, yet look for those federal socialist dollars, all while aggressively fighting programs that might benefit other states or other populations.
They are greedy motherfuckers who justify taking government socialism because it's coming from liberals.

(24,396 posts)We get back a whole $12 more than we pay out. Not much, but not a donor state at this time.
A few years ago we were getting only 74¢ back out of every $1 we paid to the feds. Things have improved a bit.

(36,745 posts)States are only allotted the exact amount they send in as federal receipts.
States like Tennessee and Florida will then have to enact income taxes, just like the other states.
The only exception would be emergency funding.

(6,254 posts)look back at Nazi Germany with hatred. Im sure there are Republicans who hate Trump but who cares, I cant stand Republicans. I can say, I do feel sad for people who live in these ass backwards states who are Dems. I live in NJ a solid Dem State but my district is a solid R district and I hate my ass backward district, but like the Dems in my district. I see nothing inconsistent or wrong with that. I hate West Virginia, Kansas etc. but feel sorry for Des who live there. But we live with our choices. I live in a R district so I live with those consequences. And yes I have zero doubt that I am superior to those traitors who vote republican where ever they live. Some of my family are Republicans and they are ignorant tools and I am superior to them in every way. I can hate a red state but that doesnt mean I hate Dems who live there. Lets cut this political correctness shit. Our country is at risk. I am an equal opportunity hater of Republicans, I hate them everywhere and will fight them to my dying breathe.

One person, one vote.
The person with the most votes wins an election.
These seem like simple and fundamental statements. But two of the last three presidents were elected despite losing the popular vote. We must abolish this relic to prevent Donald Trump or anyone like him from taking power again.

(561 posts)They complain about wanting the Federal government out of their lives, welfare cheats, immigrants, then take Federal money with both hands. Is it that they don't really know what's going on, or they just plain dishonest. I'm hoping after the 2020 election, the donor states get together and call it what it is, they are living off us. I remember when Rick Perry was calling for secession and all I was hoping for, was that it would happen, let them take care of their own, they never want to help anyone else. Donor states need their own money to take care of their larger populations.
