In 1994 Newt Gingrich swept the R's into power on a platform of term limits.

As soon as they had their House and Senate majorities, they dropped the idea.

We don't need term limits. We need fair and transparent elections.

The problem with incumbency is more about money than anything else. Term limits just disqualify people who often have the experience necessary for dealing with tough issues.

I don't know if Obama would ever want to run again, but to make him constitutionally ineligible to make that choice on his own is absurd.

It required a two thirds majority, since it would have to be a constitutional amendment. Looking back, I'm glad they failed.
