Does Ann Romney think playing the 'pity me' card will win Willard female votes?

At least she didn't say "You Women need to wake up." I mean, credit where credit is due. But come on. MS is a terrifying diagnosis. But she can afford the best of care and medications. My sister is facing her 4th bout with cancer, and struggles to keep up with her co-pays and deductables. Fortunately, healthcare reform at least protects her from being dropped by the insurance company. Believe me, she would trade 'dark places' with Annie, any day of the week.

Ann Romney: 'Women, You Need To Wake Up'

FINDLAY, Ohio -- Ann Romney fired back Wednesday at critics who have accused husband Mitt Romney of being out of touch with average Americans, saying her own bout with multiple sclerosis taught the family what it means to suffer and lose hope.

"When people say that we've led a charmed life and we don't relate to people that are having trouble, I want to remind you that I've been in a very dark place, and I know what it is like to have no hope," Mrs. Romney said at a rally for women supporting her husband, the Republican presidential candidate, at the University of Findlay in Ohio. "So believe me when I tell you these words: We are there for you because we know what it feels like."

She also made an impassioned plea to women.

"Women, you need to wake up," she said. "Mitt will be there for you, he will stand up for you, he will hear your voices, he knows how to fix an economy, he's a can-do kind of guy, he's a turnaround guy."

Because she's used to people doing what she tells them to do. In other words, she has no idea how the real world works. Fuck her.

Unfortunately for her, she doesn't understand that her "pity me" card tends to make people examine her health condition in comparison to their own - and they quickly realize she has had the ability to afford every single drug, doctor and therapy while most of the rest of us cannot. It also underscores the fact that with the ACA many people with pre-existing conditions like MS get to actually buy health care for the first time, and keep it without being chucked off because they're too sick or they've reached their cap.

I'm not sure why the Rethugs think this is a winning strategy for them.

I'm sure it wasn't a barrel of laughs for her to have MS. It must have come as quite a shock to somebody who'd led such a charmed life.

But she doesn't realize that she has NO UNDERSTANDING whatsoever of what a diagnosis of a chronic condition means to most people--will we lose our house, will I be able to work again, will my family be okay? I'm not minimizing her experience such as it was, but it simply does not give her an understanding of what a genuine dark place is.

Ann needs to just stop with the "you..." shit. Her handlers need to call her out and re-program her to say "we."
