We Are Republicans, and We Want Trump Defeated

Patriotism and the survival of our nation in the face of the crimes, corruption and corrosive nature of Donald Trump are a higher calling than mere politics. As Americans, we must stem the damage he and his followers are doing to the rule of law, the Constitution and the American character.

That’s why we are announcing the Lincoln Project, an effort to highlight our country’s story and values, and its people’s sacrifices and obligations. This effort transcends partisanship and is dedicated to nothing less than preservation of the principles that so many have fought for, on battlefields far from home and within their own communities.


Over these next 11 months, our efforts will be dedicated to defeating President Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box and to elect those patriots who will hold the line. We do not undertake this task lightly, nor from ideological preference. We have been, and remain, broadly conservative (or classically liberal) in our politics and outlooks. Our many policy differences with national Democrats remain, but our shared fidelity to the Constitution dictates a common effort.

The 2020 general election, by every indication, will be about persuasion, with turnout expected to be at record highs. Our efforts are aimed at persuading enough disaffected conservatives, Republicans and Republican-leaning independents in swing states and districts to help ensure a victory in the Electoral College, and congressional majorities that don’t enable or abet Mr. Trump’s violations of the Constitution, even if that means Democratic control of the Senate and an expanded Democratic majority in the House.

1. Two thoughts: Good for them............and what took them so long?

I wish them a lot of luck.

Their goals are very worthwhile and ambitious.

I hope they succeed.

3. All of them have been railing against Trump since he's been elected.

I could only post so many paragraphs due to copyright but further down the article just excoriates House and Senate Republicans for enabling Trump's corruption and lawlessness.

But part of what I meant is what took them so long to become this active, to work against him this hard.

5. I know Rick Wilson has worked on ads against some Republicans like Roy Moore

to help the Dem challenger but I think the House and Senate not stepping up for impeachment is the last straw.

6. That's the rational attitude

I've found that some of the loudest voices against Trump are former Republicans or Never-Trumpers.
They seem more free to express their opinions that some Democrats.

8. Tom Nichols said that if Sanders is the nominee, then he'll vote for Sanders because

it's about character not policy.

7. Why Wait Until Nov 2020....

Why don't these guys convince 20+ Repug Senators to vote to impeach Trump in the Senate now? What are they waiting for?

9. You're kidding right? Do you think they haven't tried? Rick Wilson has anyway.

In fact he's written about it. They dump on Trump in private but won't go against him publicly.
