GOP congressman breaks ranks: Giuliani’s Ukraine involvement ‘disturbing’ — and Bolton and Mulvaney should testify

December 17, 2019 by Matthew Chapman

On Tuesday, Rep. Francis Rooney (R-FL) broke ranks with his party on several anti-impeachment narratives in conversation with CNN reporter Jim Sciutto.

Rooney, according to Sciutto, said that the ongoing efforts by President Donald Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani to interfere in Ukraine are “extremely disturbing” — and that Senate Republicans should “definitely” accept Democratic demands for testimony from White House officials like former National Security Adviser John Bolton and chief of staff Mick Mulvaney.

He also pushed back on the insinuation by the president and his allies that Ukraine was working behind the scenes to try to block Trump from being elected, saying “No intel people … have corroborated any Ukraine influence in the 2016 election.”

No word on how he plans to vote though.

...until he actually votes FOR impeachment. Otherwise, this is all a bunch of Collins-esque pearl clutching. Wake me when he actually supports impeachment.

I have a hard time believing anyone on the republican side, they talk but then they vote along party lines.

They need to put their money where their mouths are.

Even voicing a doubt may release others. I think lots of others are thinking the same thing.

...and thought he actually sounded reasonable and might be a pro-impeachment Republican.

He apparently didn't even vote in favor of the rules regarding impeachment, so, I highly doubt he will vote to impeach. Until proven otherwise, he just seems to be trying to get on TV to enhance his brand before he goes into the private sector and cashes in on his congressional gig. He seems to want to come across as a "reasonable Republican" while still voting the same way as the lunatic Republicans.

The bastard has grown so accustomed to living above the law as a mob boss that he's grown to expect the same results while he occupies the White House. For him laws (and the constitution) are mere inconveniences that he pays his lawyers to work around.
