I am thrilled yet live TV after the fact would not be a good look for Democratic Congress People. We can leave that to Don...his rally tonight, he implied Dingell who recently passed went to hell. Lets leave that crap to him. We are better than that.

(14,144 posts)... Ken Starr and "I like beer" Kavanaugh must have partied up when the Clinton impeachment vote came through the House back then.

(3,255 posts)It was not even serious attempt. I have it from some pretty good sources that there were quite a few R senators who would have switched their vote to aquital if it had been close. it was just to give some red meat to their supporters and justify years og investigations.

(565 posts)The Hands! Applauded Trump during the SOTU address. And she did it twice tonight. After the Impeachment announcement and again later when the press was swamping her with questions, she raised her hand as a sword and silence, then a question was calmly put forth! She even quipped, you all make me think I'm in another country or something.
I'm sure someone will capture all of these moments. The Hand! And, how ironic with Mr. Small Hands trying to be POTUS.

(83,742 posts)I am. It was a win today.
What you do not seem to understand from my post is that live TV moments after the final vote, one that Democrats voted almost unanimously for is not the time to cheer. They are professionals with a long road to hoe before this is over. They have gone over one hurdle. More to come. This is their job and Nancy is right it needs to be with the decorum of their office.

(42,770 posts)I have just listened to hrs of C-SPAN callers....this whole "act somber" strategy doesn't work. It might have in the old days...where we might want to be..where people were kind and just and civil.

Keeping decorum in the House is a sign of true leadership.

(83,742 posts)Nancy is indeed a true leader, a brilliant one. This is why Donnie hates her, she runs circles around him...and the fact that A WOMAN is making him look like the inept buffoon he is.
Makes him insane to know he is being mocked... took him awhile, yet he finally figured it out.

(1,639 posts). . . is to forestall or redirect spontaneous human reactions that do not serve the greater good. Jesus advised those who had been slapped on the cheek to refrain from hitting back--which is about the most natural reaction that I can think of.
Parents spend the first five or more years teaching their children to think before they speak. Sometimes spontaneous reactions are considered unseemly.
Pelosi was determined to set a serious, dignified tone. In a way, she did Trump a service by maintaining that tone, because Trump, by his very nature, doesn't take anything seriously but his own ego, and he is lacking in any natural dignity.
Being censured by impeachment is the first time in his life that Trump has ever experienced any real consequences for his decisions. The man is so crass and uncouth that what he deserves is a pie to the face and a whoopie cushion slipped under his chair seat.
An orderly, somber approach to the impeachment proceedings is actually treating him like a real, legitimate official who failed to abide by his oath. The reality is that he is a emotionally stunted, narcissistic child who doesn't understand the concept of a solemn oath. . . But Speaker Pelosi does, and that is why she conducted herself as she did, and required a standard for the others to follow.

(402 posts)I remember back when members of the newly elected Democratic majority were calling to replace Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. Now, after the impeachment vote, it comes to light that she may hold up the articles of impeachment until Moscow Mitch will agree to rules that will allow a FAIR trial in the Senate. I first heard of this option from Lawrence Tribe and John Dean. I took comfort in the fact that Nancy is such a master that she had already given this consideration and if that was the best way forward, she was aware of it. THIS is why I am so glad they did not succeed. She is a master and she knows so much more than any other member of the Democratic caucus. Long live Nancy ( and Ruth Bader Ginsberg)!
