Chuck Todd: The 2010s 'probably the worst decade in American politics' in our lifetimes
<snip>
"NBC's Chuck Todd said the past decade has "probably been the worst decade in American politics, certainly in our lifetimes" on Wednesday while noting how "unremarkable" the day felt ahead of President Trump's likely impeachment in the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives.
The remarks come as the Democratic-controlled House debates impeaching President Trump. The vote later Wednesday is expected to be almost exclusively along party lines. The two articles of impeachment include abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
"I was struck both just last night and this morning how unremarkable today has suddenly felt, suddenly feels," Todd began. "And I say that because it is remarkable whats happening it is historic, whats happening."
Basically, this has probably been the worst decade in American politics, certainly in our lifetimes," the "Meet the Press" moderator continued. "Maybe the '50s and '60s had periods like this, but a sustained decade of decline.

Meet The Press hosts all-Republican panel of voters to downplay impeachment
<snip>
"On December 15, NBC host Chuck Todd presented excerpts of an interview with voters in Kent County, Michigan, to discuss impeachment. The panel consisted entirely of Republican voters, most of whom voted for President Donald Trump in 2016, and most expressed either opposition or lack of interest in impeachment.
Todd introduced the voters in Kent County as all Republican, most of whom voted for Trump in 2016. Each voter explained why they dont care about impeachment, arguing that its just noise and people are just not interested or dont have the time to try to follow it. One voter compared Trumps impeachment to that of former President Richard Nixon, arguing that Nixons pending impeachment was really, really grave at the time, but Trumps feels like political theater.
Some of the voters did offer criticisms for Trump -- he doesnt win a lot of style points -- but justified their decision to vote for him because of their support of Republican policies. One voter argued that we knew who Trump was when they voted for him, while another said that Trump will come and go, but the Republican Party has the best set of answers. A few voters did express discomfort over Trumps actions regarding Ukraine -- one claimed he did want to know if Trump directed a quid pro quo with Ukraine, and another said that its unlikely that (Trumps) innocent, but they still concluded that impeachment was relatively unimportant. Some voters also offered confused perceptions of key aspects of Trumps conversation with the Ukrainian president without clarifications from the interviewer, NBCs Dante Chinni.
