I would guess that is the least bad timing for the Senators running. I would bet that most candidates will put out their own response - as Obama did in 2008. (I was trying - unsuccessfully see if he attended, but failed) Here is Obama's response to Bush's last SOTU

He'll be apoplectic if he has to give a SOTU while impeached but not yet acquitted.

But Trump also wants a ridiculous spectacle trial. McConnell wants it short and quiet to protect his members and thereby his majority. Even if McConnell puts Senate GrOPers ahead of Dolt45, they can't get it started until the articles are delivered. Pelosi won't deliver the articles until McTurtle agrees to the rules....

The SOTU was almost postponed last year due to the federal shutdown (causing security and logistics issues). She never acted out of spite. Doing so this year would appear political.

You think Pelosi had leverage? Not really. Trump would have been thrilled if Pelosi had refused to invite him to give his state of the union address in the House chamber.
