(51,308 posts)As much as I hate gossip, I love that quote.
Kind of Dorothy Parkerish, ya know?
Speaking of her: do you know the one when she was a correspondent for some paper and was in England or Paris or somewhere, editor trying to reach her, she left a note on her door or with the switchboard, not sure which - and it said something like sorry, too fucking busy and then she added or too busy fucking.
God I wish we had someone like her around today!
Aristus
(66,278 posts)It's nice to be reminded of it.
She was really something.
The whole Algonquin Round Table was amazing.
Just like Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley liked his dry martinis, too. But usually as something to slip into when he was wet...
Stop it!

Not in any way able to counter your wit, my man! Love it though.
Not looking that up, Churchill? Noel Coward? Who?
Aristus
(66,278 posts)Speaking of Churchill, ever hear the story about the wife of a certain Member of Parliament and political enemy of Winston Churchill?
Encountering him at a party, she buttonholed him and told him: "Mr. Churchill, if I was your wife, I'd poison your coffee!"
He replied: "Madame, if you were my wife, I'd drink it."

cwydro
(51,308 posts)I think that political enemies in those days, certainly in Britain, knew who the real enemy was.
Scotland.
GERMANY! I meant Germany!...

(51,308 posts)As to whom she was speaking about.

Wonder if moderators notice cumulatively bad actors?

(14,521 posts)I pretty much stay out of the primary forum. The closer to the primaries, the uglier it'll get. Then *poof* it will get removed from the forums after the primaries are over, fences get mended and almost everyone will be all in for the nominee.
