I think we're at a turning point

Posted in several threads is news of the latest Politico/Morning Consult poll showing 52% of the country favors a trial and removal.

Conservative groups are becoming vocal in their disgust with Trumpism. It is being reported here, in GD, right now. A group of Mormon women are making their views clear. Some measure of GOP women in South Carolina are turning on Trump's main asswiper, Lindsey Graham. National Review's editor Ramesh Ponnuru calls for a trial and removal. The Never Trumpers are no longer quietly in the background. People self-identifying as former Republicans are, like Never Trumpers, making their presence known.

Our job is to make sure this is widely known. That it is okay to own the disgust you feel toward Trump. A PR campaign. An ad campaign. Talking points. Give them a platform. Spread the word. It is safe to come in from the cold.

Even if this doesn't get him removed from office, it will not be good for his reelection.

The Matrix describes "unawakened" people (more or less) as victims but still the enemy, as long as they're still in the grip of the delusion.

Every Trump supporter is an idiot racist fuckhead. Every single one of them. That includes the nice guy who walks his dog, and the woman who brings delicious cupcakes to the church bake sale. Idiot racist fuckheads.

Until they recant.

If they recognize their idiot racist fuckheadedness and truly make a change, then they absolutely deserve another chance.

But as soon as they vote Republican again (and the vast majority will do so), they're idiot racist fuckheads all over again.

because if acquitted there will be no limits to what Trump can do.

Democrats are seeking a way to prevent that outcome.

I feel like we're waiting on something, perhaps in the court system, but who knows. The rule of law is on our side which means to me the other guys will make mistakes. Trump hubris may play a part. Anything that ratchets up the stress on these thieves could produce unforced errors.

All these trumpkin assholes feigning a change of heart now will let Dems mop of the mess (again) for a few years...and then the GOP will wave promises of tax-cuts and locking up non-whites under their noses, and most of them will back the Republican (again) as long as he's a flag-happy brutish white male with a loud mouth. In fact, the more brutish, the more they'll love him.

So welcome them, but do not trust them, do not depend on them, and when they offer to "help" tell them to sit down.

I work with some Trumpists, the ones I know are somewhat dim light bulbs, talking heads, and/or self-absorbed.

If you get one started on a controversial self-justification of their position some will not STFU.
So, I just try to get through the situation as low-keyed as possible.

Reason:

If the Senate acquits, the Constitution dies. Everything else pales in comparison.

Think of what is left if the Senate acquits. Checks and Balances are dissolved. Separation of Powers is dissolved. This means that all of the federal government functions are unalterably changed. The Legislative Branch, and soon to follow, the Judicial Branch, will soon be SUBSERVIENT to the Executive Branch. Congressional oversight will end because the Executive Branch will view their co-operation as optional, and therefore non-existent. There will be nothing akin to overriding a presidential veto. A veto will be unquestioned. There will be no ability of Congress to stage impeachment inquiries because there will be no gathering of evidence. Executive Orders will REPLACE the passage of bills by Congress. Altering the terms of elections will be the prerogative of the Chief Executive with no way for the people to object. Foreign influence on elections will become the NORM, as will foreign influence on foreign policy. And these are only a portion of all of the changes that will come to pass BECAUSE the Senate acquits.

In other words, EVERYTHING COLLAPSES.

To the GOP Senators: be careful what you wish for. If you acquit, YOU are signing your own death warrant. As a legislative body, you will render yourselves powerless.

I think Mulvaney, Pompeo, Bolton and a few others would be able to give enough proof to end Trump's presidency. That's why his whole strategy is centered on ending the Senate trial before any of those people can be sworn in before a Congressional committee.
