Jackson Country, once a solid conservative bastion, seemed to be trending more Democratic in recent years. Not just Ashland, but to a lesser extent Medford as well. Still, as with most Republicans, an unanticipated dose of truthfulness and reality doesn't always provide them with a warm and fuzzy feeling!
