So, I wanted to do my part for the American economy, ordered a new 2020 Ford Escape on Oct 17.....

here it is nine weeks later and still no car. The dealership can't even give me an estimated delivery date.

When I ordered it I was told it would take 5 to 8 weeks... "closer to 5"... and I've already had to change two long distance trips because I don't have the car.

Something wrong with that business model, Ford. I'm so pissed I'm about to cancel my order, get my deposit back for breach of contract, and go over to Honda to buy one of their excellent small SUV's.

1. Or head over

to the Subaru place- get a car that was built in TN, has standard awd, and one of the best safety records of all vehicles.

14. I just got a Crosstrek. It's really, really great!

I bought my first automatic, a Forester, three years ago. I usually drive a car into the ground but I just didnít like the bulk and handling. Not bad, but I was coming off an Audi and a Mini. I never did like it. So I went for the Crosstrek. Itís great! High enough for my old ass to get in and out easily (or Iíd have never given up that Mini) and tight, zippy enough and the seat is great for long drives.

Ford isnít managing very well these days.

15. The Crosstrek hybrid is more expensive than the Escape, unfortunately.

9. If I had known when I bought my car we were moving back up north I

probably would've bought a Subaru.

2. Was it a special order?

There are 2020 Ford Escapes on all the lots around here, in fact my husband bought one last week. His was a Hybrid, so those are a lot rarer, but for the regular ones, he would have had choice of color.

5. Yes. Special ordered a Hybrid.

Your husband was lucky to find one on the lot, I think.

But he is very happy with it so far.

21. Don't get the Hybrid. My ex has one and the transmission control module went after warranty.

.

They had to take the whole car apart and she was quoted over $12K to do the change.

She took it to a local transmission shop and it still cost $9K to do the job!

.

4. Bought a 2013 Escape and had nothing but problems with it. Traded it in for a Honda HRV. Not as many

fun features but I haven't had a single problem.

7. I'm actually replacing a 2004 Honda CRV with 175k miles that runs like a top.

I might be crazy.... but I wanted a hybrid.

6. I would find that to be unacceptable

and would cancel the order taking my money down the street to another brand.

10. That seems odd to me, actually.

Was the one you ordered a special order or something, with lots of optional add-ons?

Ford dealers in my area have dozens of 2020 Ford Escapes currently in inventory, ready for delivery. Drive to the dealership and drive away in a brand new Escape in just a couple of hours.

I looked at one dealer's inventory. All trim levels are available for immediate delivery, including hybrids, and that dealership has 60 cars in stock.

13. Hmm...weird.

Did you check other dealers in the region? I'd drive a few hours to buy a car if I had specific features I wanted. Or, perhaps arrange to have it shipped to my local dealer.

But I'm looking to move away.

19. Well, I did some searching in your general area, and didn't

find any hybrid models at Louisiana dealerships. Maybe they're not good sellers in that area. You can search on the main ford.com website using zip codes to find specific models in your area. You might have to expand your search area until you find something, but you can get one somehow if you want it badly enough. You might have to go out of state, though, which can complicate things like registration, etc.

22. I searched for an SE Hybrid in any dealership in a 100 mile

radius from where you are. Nothing. I'm not sure why that is, though.

17. Unfortunately this is too common a business model with many different types of consumer

products. I've almost come to expect it when I order things and have experienced it from cars to cabinets to refrigerators to shades. That's why I have become a fan of buying things that are in stock, when I can find the things I want in stock.
