At least I hope it stays cold. He will come out of the process unrestrained by laws and itching for revenge.

(9,721 posts)All the pressure and lousy health habits will take his ugly spirit away from this mortal orb. Then karma takes over and descends him into the deepest darkest level of hell unimaginable by most human minds taking his vileness and turning it around on him a hundred fold for the rest of eternity.

(3,491 posts)Dating back to Nixon or even earlier. The Southern strategy, the right wing media long game that started in the early 70s, the removal of civics classes from schools, Reagans puppet Presidency that saw the end of the Fairness Doctrine and the rise of hate radio, Fox news, the Republican revolution in the 90s, the coup of 2000, packing the courts with RWNJs, the refusal to allow Legitimate President Obama to do his job, the coup of 2016 brought about by enemy foreign interference and the further packing of the courts with even worse, unqualified, judges than the Bush junta put in.
The sham acquittal of Тяцмр wont herald the beginning of this cold civil war but it could damn well mark the end of it with the bad guys winning this time.

(12,582 posts)Most likely, he'll get another Supreme Court justice, and raise the number of Federal Court appointees from the current one-third to at least one-half, each more unqualified than the one before, and all loyal to Trump.
He'll get his wall built, even if he has to eliminate the entire social safety net to pay for it. Social Security and Medicare will both be on the chopping block. All environmental pollution regulations will be eliminated, and the EPA disbanded.
New tax cuts for the rich will not only keep them from paying taxes, but receiving money from the taxpayers instead (think corporate farming subsidies).
The United States will continue its downward spiral on the world stage. NATO will be disbanded, and all other treaties where Trump figures the U.S. is getting screwed -- in other words, any treaty that he didn't directly negotiate -- will be ended. The U.S. will pull out of the U.N. (a long time dream of the Right). Russia will take over Ukraine. Putin will not only tell Trump what to do internationally, but also domestically. Russian interference with our elections -- from disinformation to actually changing vote tallies --will continue to increase.
The Justice Department will be restructured as a branch of the Oval Office, to serve the never ending grudges that Trump holds against anyone who has slighted him, real or imagined.
Evangelical Christianity will play a larger role in government decision making. Separation of church and state will cease to exist.
Families will continue to be torn apart as MAGAts become even more unrelenting in their attacks on those relatives who don't follow the Trump doctrine.
Trump will completely ignore any law or regulation that gets in the way of his goals. He will continue to claim that he should be entitled to more than two terms. His followers will work to make that happen
We will never see his tax returns, nor an accurate health examination, nor a written record of any conversation he has with Putin.
Trump is a narcissistic sociopath with control of the world's largest arsenal of nuclear weapons. And he holds a huge grudge against anyone who does not kowtow to him. Witness the Cabinet meeting in his first year where all the secretaries went around the table praising his intelligence and wonderfulness.
I have to have faith in the willingness of the American people to rise up and take back their country. There are more of us than there are of them, although at this time the Right is focused like a laser on remaking our nation in Trump's image. He knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. #Sad
