"SNIP.....
A new MSN poll has found that national support for removing Donald Trump from office has hit a record high of 55% with the American people.
Via The Independent:
Fifty-five per cent of those asked said they were in favour of the US presidents conviction by the Senate, a figure which has shot up from 48 per cent the week before.
Meanwhile, the number of people against Mr Trumps removal has dropped to an all-time low, according to the MSN poll.
On Christmas Day, 40 per cent were opposed to the Senate voting to convict the president, who has been impeached over his dealings with Ukraine and an alleged subsequent attempt to obstruct congress.
The gap between the two views has become much wider since last week, when there was little to divide them (48 per cent in favour of Mr Trumps removal, 47 per cent against).

(13,591 posts)To sell ads, the media has to have a horse race. Expect a flurry of "polls" that get it back to the desired 50/50.
It was a CNN poll that had the figures so close and was a complete outlier. They like to create their own drama for reporting, even their own pundits did not agree with the poll.

(19,038 posts)This is going to be decided by the polls. If this approaches 60%, the Republicans in the Senate will start to flip.

(19,038 posts)She had to know that over the Holidays and into January the polls would start to swing this way. She can let them wait while this builds against Trump.

(26,044 posts)...unless it starts topping that number in deep-red states and, even then, I doubt it would make a difference until the primary filing deadline has passed, so GOP senators no longer have to worry about a challenge from a Trumpian true believer.

(21,432 posts)This poll doesn't break down the results by party. I would bet that support for removal among Pubs is very low. Senators in red states will vote with thei constituency.
Besides, we don't know what 'evidence' the Senate will present from Rudy's dirt gathering trips. Will the spin presentation at trial be good enough to sway opinion toward Trump?

(81,220 posts)Senate, AND House! And at your state Capitols, too.
As my kid used to holler to the crowd at the start of his bands set:
MAKE SOME NOISE!!!

(58,647 posts)I wish they wouldn't do shit like that. It's like the stock market, it wiggles a couple percent and all of a sudden it's a "huge shift."
Yeah, it went up 2-3%, hardly out of the MOE yet.
Nice to see, but not something to get all hyped up about. Get back to me when it tops 60%.

(2,916 posts)Every time I see this website linked I wonder about the legitimacy of the headlines and what the sourcing is. I hate hitting up clickbait sites that basically regurgitate someone elses reporting for ad revenue and sell your info.
But hey, Im all in favor of a small upswing in support for removal.

(58,647 posts)unfortunately, impeachment owes more to the electoral college than to the popular vote. You don't often see a breakdown by states.
nilram
(2,886 posts)not the electoral college. And its the red senators who need the most encouragement (aka poll numbers). So, yeah, thats what makes it unfortunate that we dont get the poll breakdowns by statethough Im sure theyre out there.
Wounded Bear
(58,647 posts)not that the EC casts the votes, but that the red state senators have to be our targets. It's like the EC not voted on by them.

(1,115 posts)Do not answer phone calls. My wife answered a poll back in Gore days and
disappeared from the registered voters list. She could not vote. I do not answer
calls everyday that I do not recognize. We Democrats know who we are
not voting for ... fuck the polls.
This Poll shit is something I ignore just as I ignore the debates and mass media.
I am voting Democratic but not for Biden (in the primaries, he is one of my favorites
though).
Who needs debates when we have DU?

(35,300 posts)And the numbers are taken and weighted, which is standard, but in an attempt to model the likely voters for fall 2020.

(1,115 posts)Yeah, I did miss that. But I do not participate in online polls either.
You did help me though.
I am convinced that all we have to do is vote and I have confidence
in the voters, all of us, this time around.
And I always stand to be corrected.

(333 posts)Look, to see this knucklehead convicted would truly make my day; however, the polls taken on trump flip from week to week depending on where the poll comes from and how it was constructed, who got asked the questions and what kind of questions were asked, etc. This info changes depending on the "expected" result. Trump has a consulting firm that does its own polling, this is why he always says his numbers are "through the roof", but the media NEVER asks him where he gets his numbers from (they don't wanna know). The polls are meaningless. The "where's bigfoot Poll" shows support for trump increasing by 10% with a margin of error of +-10%. The A's for everybody university poll shows trump's approval rating at 45%, etc. Look, forget impeachment, forget the senate trial, WE HAVE TO VOTE THIS MANIAC OUT OF OFFICE!!! VOTE, VOTE VOTE. SAVE AMERICA, VOTE TRUMP OUT OF OFFICE!!!
kimbutgar
(21,130 posts)How can that be with this new poll saying 55% want him removed.
All these polls are just trying to influence our thinking. Gang mentality bs.
Tennessee Hillbilly
(587 posts)The latest update to the MSN poll (today) shows 54% are for Trump's removal.
But this is less than it was on Oct. 6, when it was 55%.
So the recent gains have merely brought it back up to where it was in early October.

Florida DUers, that means YOU, TOO!!!
Just DO it. Make a call. Call local or regional or their Washington DC offices. Ive found its much easier to get through at the district offices, though.
Or send a postcard! Or a paper letter. Or a fax. SOMETHING that is legitimate undeniable constituent evidence. Hmmm... um... Im getting a lot of shit about this from my constituents... um... theyre keeping track... and Ive got an election coming up... um... wanna keep my job...
WORK IT! And make it work for you - and for ALL of us!
