"SNIP.....
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) claimed that several of his Republican colleagues in the Senate have severe misgivings about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnells (R-KY) impeachment strategy to coordinate with the White House, The Hill reports.
Said Blumenthal: Ive talked to anywhere from five to 10 of my colleagues who have very severe misgivings about the direction that Mitch McConnell is going in denying a full, fair proceeding with witnesses and documents. My hope is that they will say publicly what Senator Murkowski did, and really hold Mitch McConnell accountable.

(82,849 posts)Are you going to absolve them from any responsibility for confessing their misgivings to you but not following through? Is the confidentiality of the confessional more important than the Constitution? What I really don't want to see is months or years from now all these superannuated Republican Senators coming forward to say how they really opposed Trump back in the day, even told their colleague Senator Blumenthal all about it, but they couldn't quite say so publicly at the time because reasons, and nothing to do with being cowards, so stop saying that!

(8,678 posts)more than anyone else, TALK IS CHEAP. Especially if it is a female senator from Maine or Alaska......
All the Dems across the nation had better get everything ready for Trump's Party on Nov 3rd and 4th.........
If you think the Repubs are going to come this close to check-mate on their Tyrannical Fascist Presidency, and not succeed, you need to think again.......They have been working on this for over 40 years folks. Chipping away, organizing, orchestrating, putting it all in place......

(20,864 posts)I hope that Blumenthal, Schumer and the rest don't cave to McConnell. No trial is better than a sham trial.

(33,033 posts)I'm making an assumption about the previous comment. It could be just a provincial idiom, but around here, "on the pad" is equivalent to "on the take", i.e., corrupt. We know that Trump has offered campaign contributions to Republican Senators, so they are corrupted jurors.

(27,404 posts)They can say whatever they want behind closed doors but they are just as useless as McConnell supporters if they wont go public.

(26,355 posts)Really, the GOP's stuck between a rock and a hard place. If they conduct the trial fairly, Trump can only make himself and the GOP look even worse. But if they do what Moscow Mitch wants and rig the trial, and refuse to allow witnesses or evidence, that will make the GOP look like the crooks they are too.

(10,749 posts)They won't say shit.
Murkowski and Collins will be concerned but will never - repeat, never - vote against the party.
It doesn't fucking matter what they say in private if they are going to back the party when it counts.
They are spineless cowards, well on their way to becoming spineless traitors.
Any questions?

(6,330 posts)A quick acquittal and the impeachment fiasco was behind them. Now, no matter what, any acquittal is going to look tainted and used against them if they are up for re-election.
Mitch had so much hubris and was probably trying to shore up the base in his home state....but then, oops. Didn't consider Nancy would hold up delivery and drag this out and make him look responsible for it.
So now he either has to cave in or proceed with the sham trial and rendering any acquittal as bullshit.

(14,948 posts)I don't care what the turtle or the (r)epuglicons say. I'm not sure that what the Democrats/I's say has any weight either.
I'm sure that lots of end-game plays have been tested and that the dump-in-thief and the rest of the (r)s will find a way to skirt democracy.
Could the senate receive the impeachment from the house and just sit on it? I'm sure there are delaying tactics that will be put in play.

(6,094 posts)If MoscowMitch won't agree. Keep investigating and file new articles of impeachment. Stack them on DO NOT BACK DOWN.
I would prefer to lose while holding our ground than to have MoscowMitch and the cowards in the Sen to pull a fast one and exonerate him. Only one Merrick Garland insult period.
