Howler monkeys are the loudest land animals on Earth, capable of bellowing at volumes of 140 decibels, which is on the level of gunshots or firecrackers. Not surprisingly, male howlers frequently use this power to advertise their sexual fitness, catcalling females with their ear-splitting roars........................

Having heard them while hiking in Belize. The Orange MF makes my ears bleed at any decibel level.

For some reason they call Howler Monkeys baboons there.

Spouse and I took a guided walking tour thru the sanctuary there. The monkeys would hang from the trees and take bananas from our hands.

The sanctuary is in a rural but populated area. The guided walk was thru peoples backs yards, etc. Very interesting.

Sounds like it would have been fun! I did a lot of hiking when I was there...the first time I heard Howlers, I heard them before I see could see them. I didn’t know what they were. The hair stood up on the back of my neck. It’s crazy how loud they are!!

I particularly like the two comparison photos in this thread! The overcompensating monkey and the guy with the hard-on to build big tall towers all over the place, and stick his name on it in the biggest glitziest lettering he can manage.
