3. So true
That I moved to Costa Rica. A socialist country. With happy people in good health and nice teeth. Prevailing wage is about $6 an hour. No school shootings. No despots stealing. President is a progressive.
Road crew equipment is usually a cement mixer, wheel barrow and a white five gallon bucket. Gas is about $5.50 a gallon. Yes. Huge differences. We wouldn’t move back for a minute. |

11. Wow! I just took a tour of Tronadora on Google Maps.
I'm surprised Costa Rica hasn't yet had its government undermined or even overturned by the US in the name of 'business interests.' I mean, how many times has THAT happened?
I'm happy for you, because it looks like a pretty nice place. I wish you the best. How long did it take you to learn Spanish? or did you know the language before you went? |

20. Been here sept 1. Taking Spanish since October
Teacher says we are doing well.
We live on the South end of Lake Arenal. Beautiful view of the lake. Near a village called called Rio Piedras between Tronadora and Nuevo Arenal. For us it’s perfect in every way. Adopted a street rescue. Life is Very Good Spanish ignored Costa Rica as do robber Barons because it has no oil, no gold mines, no real money making business outside tourism and there is no development on lake edge or on the coast. State owns all right of way. |

It has high levels of education and life expectancy vs. its material footprint.

8. And yet most are not deceived
One regional electorate put an actual Trotskyist on the Seattle City Council and snow-balled the movement for $15/hr. The lies and disinformation take root better in some places than others...I for one do not know why this is.

10. Well, the thing about lies is they have unlimited potential.
You can make up any fact, any information and any fake theory. With the truth you are limited to reality.
So, lies sound so much more interesting and fascinating. A virgin birth, a chance to see your dead love one, greed is good, free markets....anything can be made up. That's why lies spread so quickly. They are so much more interesting than reality. Lies can be carefully constructed to explain away most anything. But to get to the truth you have to research and study. The truth is limited by reality. Lies are unlimited. |

I also find that a great deal of people preferred to be lied to, it is much more soothing. Yet, bedtime stories are often much darker than many realize.

9. I like it. Because it is true.
These people who call themselves capitalists aren't, most of them. They are just working schmucks like the rest of us. Unless you have invested capital in a physical plant that now employs people to produce some good or service, and you are making profits directly off the labor of your workforce, you aren't a capitalist.

I'd love to read Jesus' first hand account of how he woke up in the tomb and how he surprised his followers by returning from the dea. His description of their shocked faces would be knee slapping funny!

19. Always nice to have this post pop up again and again, reminding us all of who the real culprit is...
in our society...predatory capitalists, no less. When is enough money, enough?
And this thing about not paying decent wages (or fighting against increases in the minimum wages all of the time), not paying a larger bulk of taxes, etc., do you realize that w/o society as it is today, you wouldn't had made your money without all of us and the stability we enabled in this Country in order for you billionaires and millions to have your money. Maybe quit complaining so much and share a little bit of the wealth? Or else...recessive and aggressive taxes will be the law of the land, and billionaires and millionaires will finally pay a bigger share of their wealth for this great country of ours. Don't keep bringing up your pathetic excuses and threats, long overused, that higher taxes will cost jobs, keep wages low, etc., when in fact, taxes are among the lowest ever, wages are still stuck in the 1970s, and jobs are coming out the wazoo, mostly all low paying, minimum wage jobs that people need to have 3 of them in order to make ends meet). |

31. I hope so. Unions have done all of us a huge favor by standing up for the common person, ...
and frankly, I'm sick and tired of hearing about the woes of the wealthy not making enough money, etc. Haven't they got enough already? Their class (upper 10%) already have way too much compared to the rest of us who are struggling to make ends meet. Ridiculous in a country of plenty, eh?

30. Never,
not once, not a single time, have I worried about socialism.
I worry about being consumed, I mean eaten, by this sick system, I mean capitalism, that so many seem to worship. Unrestrained capitalism will kill us and most of the species on this planet. Capitalism promises life, while taking it from us. It promises wealth, if only you just work hard enough. It's all a filthy lie. Buy into it, and you will be consumed as well. On the other hand, have a nice day! ![]() |

34. Accumulation of wealth isn't capitalism. That's just half of it.
Accumulation of wealth is just greed. Capitalism is a SYSTEM -- the wealth must be reinvested, redistributed, it must be kept flowing within the system for the system to sustain itself. At least, that's one of the metaphorical ways I look at it.
