Victim was one of a group of people being held inside a motel room. When he tried to escape, the police gunned him down. Oops.

Standoff victim's mother: Woodbury PD won't talk to meWOODBURY, Minn.
(KMSP) - Days after her 19-year-old son was shot and killed by police during a SWAT standoff at a Woodbury motel, the victim's mother told FOX 9 News she is still waiting for answers.
Investigators admit Mark Henderson was an unarmed hostage who had been shot at by his captor and was trying to escape when officers opened fire; however, police said they believed he was armed at the time of the shooting. Woodbury officers opened fire after he did not comply with orders to drop.
On Wednesday, family members held a vigil in his honor -- and they hope police will soon return their calls to explain what happened. Tawana Henderson told FOX 9 News that Woodbury police still haven't spoken with her despite repeated attempts. The Woodbury Police Department also did not respond to calls about this story.
Henderson also said she doesn't have enough money to bury her son, and she said the funeral home told her it appears he was shot a dozen times from the front.

(5,756 posts)I am not a law officer but I can try to imagine a situation where a person comes out running from a hostage situation where shots had already been fired might be mistaken for the criminal. So until there is further information I don't think we should demonize the police.
Yes, Ms. Henderson you are right, your son did not deserve to die this way.
