WingNuttia Daily: Cenk Uygur a Holocaust denier

Screenshot of WorldNetDaily/WND.com via ConWebWatch:

Terry Krepel explains:

The first thing most people will think of when they see the words "holocaust denier" is that the person in question is denying the mass killings of Jews and others by the Nazis during World War II -- indeed, the word "holocaust" is shorthand for Nazi genocide.

(Joseph) Farah devotes his column to attacking Uygur for allegedly denying the Turkish genocide of Armenians in the early 20th century.

We do not know enough about the history of the incident or Uygur's position on it to make an informed judgment about whether Uygur is a "denier." We do, however, know lies and deception when we see it, and we know Farah just can't stop lying, which makes any pronouncement he makes immediately suspect. Even if Farah is correct, he has so undermined his own credibility that anything he says simply cannot be believed (just like his WND employee Jerome Corsi).

Because Farah's goal is to smear and not to inform, he has overplayed his hand yet again -- thus further beclowning himself and his website.

Wikipedia summarizes Cenk's views of the Armenian Genocide:

Uygur expressed denial of the Armenian Genocide in letters published by The Daily Pennsylvanian in 1991 and Salon in 1999, one of which (titled "Historical Fact or Falsehood?&quot in he stated ""The claims of an Armenian Genocide are not based on historical facts. If the history of the period is examined it becomes evident that in fact no such genocide took place." [18][19] Uygur's letters later drew criticism from the west-coast affiliate of the Armenian National Committee of America, the California Armenian American Democrats, and other members of Armenian-American community, who subsequently protested during his speech at the California Democratic Party's 2012 state convention with the support of Charles Calderon and Janice Hahn.[20][21][22]

Farah must still be incensed over Cenk Uygur pwning him on MSNBC last year (video) (transcript). Watch the video at 3:30 and see Farah going crazy because he ran out of facts to counter Obama's long form birth certificate!

The updated Wikipedia entry now states:

In 1991 Uygur wrote an article on The Daily Pennsylvanian in which he expressed the opinion that the genocide of Armenians during the late stages of the Ottoman Empire did not in fact constitute genocide,[17] a view he repeated in a letter to the editor of Salon in 1999.[18] In a blog post in April 2016, he announced that his views on the matter had changed significantly since 1991 and formally rescinded the statements. He went on to claim that he does not know enough today to comment on the genocide.[19]

There was a big argument on Wikipedia talk page a while ago over the bio content regarding Cenk's views on the genocide. There has been a concerted troll attack trying to insinuate genocide denial into the issue and that meme found its way into the bio, triggering a review of the bio for NPOV. This verbiage that the custodians eventually settled on is more consistent with the reality as based on the available evidence IMO. So the reality is even further off the claim than your post indicates. He never denied anything, he just contested the label.

That 'blog post' is actually a formal statement on tytnetwork.com, home of the largest online video news network in the world, as based on views spread across multiple social media forums. Calling it a blog is a little bit like calling a nuclear weapon a hand grenade. Oh well.
