Tell me this doesn't sound like the end of democracy

Attorney General William Barr has issued new restrictions on opening investigations into politically sensitive individuals or entities, including a requirement that he approve any inquiry into a presidential candidate or campaign.

Sounds to me like Barr will become the sole gate keeper to oversight.

2. He's old

and unhealthy looking. Maybe bad habits will catch up to him as well. Hopefully a lot sooner than later.

3. Yes...

So is Barr his Martin Bormann or his Heinrich Himmler?

I'm going with Bormann at this point. Since there were about ten really powerful members of the inner circle, we should see more henchmen of a similar type as his Orange Reich unfolds.

4. I don't think that precludes Congress

From conducting oversight, just DOJ.

But he is very dangerous.

5. it could actually be a good thing

no more last-minute investigations too close to the election. Of course, if Barr were only to approve investigations of rivals, then we'd have a problem.

This should apply to the FBI, which is under DOJ, but not Congress.

6. "...only to approve investigations of rivals..."

What else could possibly be the ulterior motive, given the source?

7. I wouldn't trust Barr at all

I think he would welcome an investigation at the last minute if it helped Trump against a rival. Also, it could very will hamper Congress from investigating. What if Congress wanted to use the FBI to assist in an investigation?

8. Trump owns Barr. McConnell owns Trump.
