It is meant to stir up resentment and animosity. When a Democratic nominee is chosen I will make my choice known but not with a hat. As it stands now I expect Trump supporters to turn violent. Their threats mean nothing to me and their hats mark them in my memory.

But I feel like Trump has forever linked the phrase with racism and bigotry, so no Democratic candidate will use it in the future, at least not for a long time. The phrase "make America great again" is not inherently racist, but using it after 8 years of the first black president, in conjunction with a campaign that was built largely on appealing to racist, anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim sentiment has made it racist in context.
