Good bye, cable nooze...

Had it up to here with endless discussions about looming elections. Never anything breaking that I don't get with a quick look at the Times or WaPo.

And never anything in depth-- takes up too much time and money to do a half hour on a subject.

And what's with the Kars for Kids commercials on MSNBC on Sirius?

Back to local channels, PBS and NPR. At least you can get traffic and weather reports. And the latest gas station shootout.

it's for other news shows and only 1 or 2. You can get it in the video or just sound form but the video version is truncated. I don't think watching it is better than just audio anyway.

I couldn't find it on a podcast. I guess the OP was referring the Audible book, Dark Towers.

We have Sling and have CNN - Fox and MSNBC recently added. I only watch AC if it's a big event and Toobin and Gergen are likely to be on.

I love S&G and they were before my time, luckily had Bookends and Bridge OTW Albums to play over and over in youth, would buy more CDs, "Richard Cory" what an apt tune for today!

I'd never heard it until I found it on the soundtrack for the movie "Garden State" - highly recommend that movie.

NPR and DU mirror each other perfectly. Often out of sync by maybe twenty minutes, but everything talked about on NPR is discussed on DU, and vice-versa.

NPR and Pacifica Radio are just about the only two radio stations I listen to. NPR has a really good mix of politics and science that engages my mind, and despite what the right tries to tell you, their political reporting is actually fact based, sans the spin.

Stream Al Jazeera English on it.

You will see news that even puts the BBC to shame.

Another decent news service on Roku and Fire TV is NHK World (Japan).

I have Dish and they used to show Al Jazeera America. I loved the objectivity of their news and used to watch AJA a lot.

A woman I knew in high school used to bitch on Zuckerberg's Plague on Humanity about AJA being on. It wasn't good enough for her to just not watch it herself; she didn't want anybody in the U.S. to be able to watch AJA because "Al Jazeera" was in its title. She was--and remains--brainwashed and, remembering the quote about wrestling with a pig, I knew any effort to enlighten her would prove to be futile.

I'm constantly amazed at the "open-mindedness" of the Fox News-believing Obama haters. Gotta love it!

No cable, no satellite, no broadcast.

I'm not supporting the beast that gave us Trump or Ronald Reagan, may they both rot in hell.

It's a peaceful way of life.

I never see Trump on television and there's no Kars for Kids jingles playing in my head.

Our television plays DVDs and Netflix. That's a lot of television. Netflix is $8.99 a month. Plenty of newer movies are available for rental from our neighborhood Redbox. I also find DVDs in thrift stores.

I think if enough people aggressively avoid television maybe television will get rid of Trump for us. They made him, they can eat him.

It seems to me once you've quit the television habit for a few months you never go back.
