You're making the OP's point, btw.

(7,715 posts)There's a lot of suspicious traffic around these parts and a little tough love early on in your DU experience doesn't hurt.
I just cleared a 1000 posts a couple of weeks ago, and a few bits of this tough love at the start of my DU posting helped me think twice about what I was trying to accomplish. It also made me do a little bit of research before making a post.
I've had much tougher experiences in conversations, at work etc than at DU!

(22,135 posts)I am wary of posters that seem to be concern trolls or that put down a candidate or that otherwise try to drive a wedge among the various groups in the Democrats' big tent.
I don't think DU should be accepting of them. I don't think I am rude to them but I will try to point out what the post seems to do.

(108,496 posts)benefit-of-the-doubt when new posters make controversial first posts.
That said, civility goes both ways. One does not "shit" upon the dinner table of your newly acquainted hosts (as my grandmother used to say in an albeit more G-rated manner)

(108,496 posts)So yes. Those who come here with the intent of antagonizing/inciting, rather than accepting the conditions of registration, are proverbially shitting on their hosts' table.
Nature Man
(869 posts)I wasn't talking about that.
Nor was the OP.
But we all know what you are saying.
I don't personally own the gas station, someone else does. But when I go there, I definitely DO NOT take a steaming hot shit right by the cash register.

I made no mention of defecation until you did.
We all (hopefully) know that none of us actually OWN DU. But thanks for pointing it out!

Just not to the Repubs and trolls. They can slither right on out of here.

(14,968 posts)and I don't believe I've ever slapped down any new member because they're a new member or a low count poster.
As a matter of fact, I question the motives of those that do go after new members just because they are new members.
Just in case you are wondering why my profile says member since 2019, I had to take a leave of absence in 2004 due to life problems, but I did join up in 2001.

This thread is going to be a shit show.
Why not just kindly respond to the posts that seem to be condescending? Perhaps the DUer isn't even aware of his/her tone.
Calling this out publicly just seems to be an attempt to stir the pot.
(Even though I have a relatively low post count, I've been an active member since 2003, and personally, I tend to have some admiration toward those with high post counts--most of them know what they are talking about, and if you engage with them in disagreement, they tend to interact respectfully.)
