She gave a great speech at the convention, but she did almost nothing when she was governor. I lived Michigan during her first term. Sure she had Republican opposition, but se never FOUGHT for anything or anyone. She may have given great presentations, but she was ultimately an empty suit.

(58,511 posts)Is the time and money I put into her election in 2002 with nothing to show for it in terms of accomplishments.

(34,341 posts)She came in to try to clean up Engler's mess. She wasn't a dictator for crying out loud. I smell an alterior motive. I've lived in Michigan all my life and the first governor I remember is Romney. Don't give me that shit about how she never did anything. She was constantly fighting and blocking the very crap that is decimating our rights right now.

Maybe she'll improve with the current Dem momentum!

(21,086 posts)the Engler gut and spend tax dollars for the monied, rob public pensions because he couldn't add or subtract as well as the current crop of neanderthal build a bridge to Canada for free shitheads.
Sorry, can't support the idea that Granholm did nothing. The people of Michigan did elect her twice.

(58,511 posts)ANYTHING is an improvement over Engler and Snyder. But she was in bad shape heading into 2006 and the wave saved her.

(55,745 posts)Nice person. Great family. Fantastic speech at DNC.
As Gov., she was there going through the motions. The Big Money was protected, from Nuke Inc to the Wayne County Airport crew.
Ad for Michigan DEMs, we could've gone with David Bonior. The Big Money backed...Jenn.

(17,528 posts)Maybe she couldn't do much because she was stymied by their ReThug congress and what their voters wanted. Maybe she could do lots better working for Dems.

(6,899 posts)She's not running for office and she was there to support the Democratic party and the President. She is no longer governor of Michigan and I see no specifics in your critique of her time in office.
Understand that I don't believe that most DUers are from Michigan; there are 50 states and many more governors and ex-governors. If you actually have specifics that have caused your dislike of her, please provide them.

(58,511 posts)Literally, she did nothing for 8 years.

(43,049 posts)it means "didn't do what I wanted about two or three things really important to me."
That may or may not be the case here, but it looks like she managed to solve some budget problems without blood or dumping more on the poor, brought in new industry to help with unemployment, and kept the state running against humongous Republican opposition and stonewalling.
Besides, that was a Republican talking point in her second campaign-- they stonewalled her and then complained she got nothing done. They lost mightily, it might be noted.
Kinda like situation the President is in. Some people, even around here, don't like him because they say he's done "nothing."

(37,364 posts)I think the Rs are worried about her presence even though she can't run for president. She's a smart and strong woman who knows how to command attention.

(28,762 posts)so why are you piling on? I would have loved her as governor of Indiana. This damn republican fool that we have wants to privatize everything. Hell he even sold our Indiana Toll Road to an Australian company. We're now a Right to Work for Less state too.
Egad. . you don't know how good you had it up there with Granholm!
