Breakthrough: Chloroquine phosphate has shown apparent efficacy in treatment of COVID-19

This is exciting! Chloroquine is an old, cheap, and safe drug that's given for malaria.

The Chinese are using it in clinical trials to treat COVID-19 pneumonia in the sickest patients and it appears to be working! Blocks the infection.

If this holds up could be a game changer. 🤞

and you MIGHT have something there.

Chloroquine is quinine, nothing new at all. Its been used in the past to treat malaria.

He contracted it during WWII.

He drank quinine water often and he also used to take zinc with it as it helped make the quinine work better he used to say.

He also took vitamin C and vitamin E.

He also contracted dengue fever and beri-beri to go with the malaria which never goes away.

I often wonder how he lived to be as old as he did in hindsight which was 75 years with a load of suffering that went with it. My poor Dad. How I miss him so!

Living with tinnitus for decades - aggravated by Q-Vel, which I took for restless leg in the early 80s.

But I guess if I get the pneumonia, rather than a mild case, it is good to have options.

So he lived for two years in malaria country without it. But if we can get some protection to the herd in general, that’d be great.

Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported on February 17 that “Chinese experts, based on the result of clinical trials, have confirmed that chloroquine phosphate... has a certain curative effect on the novel coronavirus disease”.

These trials were being conducted on “over 100 patients”, according to Sun Yanrong, deputy head of the China National Center for Biotechnology Development under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

A brief overview of the findings published by the Japan-based journal BioScience Trends provided few details as to how the trials were carried out.

In a press conference on February 20, Janet Diaz, head of clinical care within the WHO Emergencies Programme, said that “for chloroquine, there is no proof that that is an effective treatment at this time.”

At the time of writing, the World Health Organization (WHO) states that “to date, there is no vaccine and no specific antiviral medicine to prevent or treat COVID-2019”.

so many in the west was an outgrowth of Mao/CCP not having the resources available to offer what other nations could in terms of the latest evidence-/science-based treatments to the general population, so they promoted the virtues of what was available to offer?

Can nobody envision any similarity which would trigger in them some skepticism until the results are repeated elsewhere absent any agenda/COI?

But that release was issued February 19, and there isn’t any further information I could find since.

I’m sure if it were actually working, we would be hearing much more about it now, don’t you think? It wa three weeks ago when this was published.

There are clinical trials currently underway to determine if Chloroquine really is a drug that can fight the Conona virus. They are primarily in China, which sounds suspicious, but I don't think the doctors there would have anything to gain from lying about this med or making unsubstantiated claims. There have been previous studies showing that Chloroquine is effective in fighting the deadly SARS virus which is related to COVID19 so its possible it has a similar affect on this current virus. I think the Chinese doctors have reported what they have seen clinically but are now gather the scientific evidence needed to support their claims, sort out the various factors that may be involved, and provide data to the medical community. There may be similar studies underway here in the USA as well.

Japan also is testing drug combinations on COVID19, not Chlorquine, but anti-viral HIV medications. Its possible some of these may be proven effective also.

Like others here I take Hydroxychloroquine daily for an autoimmune disease (Lupus). I'm following this closely because if this med has a positive effect on fighting the virus that will be a huge discovery.
