One Canadian is the only illegal alien caught in Florida fake-voter dragnet

For months, Florida Republicans have been trying to clamp down on illegal aliens improperly included on on voting lists.

... But after months of searching, only one alien falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen has been caught, charged and convicted in Florida. It turns out he is a Canadian, a man who registered and voted in at least two presidential elections while masquerading as a citizen so he could also buy and “bear arms,” that other right cherished by many Americans.

Josef Sever, 52, won’t be voting in Florida this November, though. He pleaded guilty on Aug. 30 in federal court in Miami to multiple felony charges of falsely attesting to be a U.S. citizen and illegally voting.

... Under pressure from the governor, the state’s electoral officials had initially flagged more than 180,000 names (many of them Hispanic-sounding) for checking. All but 2,600 of those initially flagged – some of whom turned out to be not only citizens, but military veterans with service in Afghanistan and Iraq – were quickly determined to be bonafide citizens and restored to the voter rolls.

10. My claim to fame

One of my good friends went to college with Michael Moore's step daughter. (For those of you who don't know, Michael Moore directed the movie Canadian Bacon). Anyways, she was having a Y2K party in her step father's apartment and my friend was invited. He drug me along with him and I spent 3 or 4 days hanging out in Michael Moore's Manhattan apartment.

Anyways, Michael Moore's step daughter makes a very brief cameo in the movie above. At the party we kept watching the scene over and over again and making fun of her for it. When John Candy is cruising around in the truck looking for the Canadians, he stops and ask a 12 year old girl where the Canadians are. The girl says "In the Canadian National Building". Well, that girl is Michael Moore's step daughter.

As far as Michael Moore goes, he was out of town for the duration of my stay in his apartment. The apartment itself was nice, but it wasn't over the top. I'd probably say it was about the size of a typical 3 or 4 bedroom house (Maybe 2,100-2,500 SQFT). Except that it was on the 18th floor of some building in Manhattan. It was kind of cool just seeing the stuff all over the house and realizing that he is just a normal guy.
