Me - 1 month. Public service.
My wife - until further notice. Fortune 500 company.
Daughter - 2 weeks from school.
We're all here...with the dog. We'll see how strong our WiFi is.

(27,800 posts)Large law firm. Wifi here is excellent, but it's an apartment, so I'm a little caged. LUCKILY I have floor to ceiling windows in the corner where I work.
My boyfriend is still working - mobile mammography - but their events are being cancelled and he is really limiting exposure and wiping everything down (he's not around the patients, just the equipment).
I can look down at a couple of bus stops from up here on the fourth floor and everyone is spaced out (this is in Seattle).

(14,487 posts)My work load will also increase. My regular job duties will be supplemented with a project to try to reallocate as many employees as possible who cannot do their current jobs to areas that need help. It's gonna get cray-cray! But I am grateful to have a job I can continue to do through this crisis and also help others.

(12,645 posts)Got my Lysol wipes, my cubicle is mine (not shared) and we have key card pads and automatic door switches we press with our elbows to open. Cubicles residents are now 14 ft apart with the alternating workforce.
Bathrooms all have those handicapped door openers you can also use your elbow to open. We just have to bring our own lunches and use paper towels opening the fridge, microwave, etc...
The network can't support everyone teleworking, so this was the next best solution.
I feel for the people working the shipyards and warehouses though, the ones who don't have a telework option. They're hosed, let go until there's an "all clear, come back to work".

(17,595 posts)I will resist returning to the office anytime soon and I know my boss will back me up.
We're normally allowed to work remote one or two days a week, so technically our team was prepared. We only needed the okay to not go back into the office.
I feel for people who can't work remotely. It is a great relief to me. But then, I am in or approaching the "at risk" age range with some medical issues. If my company thinks it wants me to be alive and working for them a year from now, they probably shouldn't push this thing.

(1,584 posts)A lot of jobs can be done from home. We can really cut back on wasted resources by increasing our home based workforce. Less traffic, less emissions, better work-life balance...

(6,390 posts)But to be honest, I did go in the office yesterday....it was a ghost town. Boss was there and a few others. They either live close by or the type of people who don't like WFH.
I wouldn't be surprised in a week or two it becomes mandatory until this blows out of So Cal.
All the corporate head honcho's have dispersed across the country and working in satellite offices. So if it does go south in a really bad way, the entire leadership isn't out of commission.

(2,149 posts)I think that's optimistic. Some projections suggest six figures of confirmed cv-19 cases by then, it strikes me as prudent to extend the remote work until we're on the backside of the curve of infection

(7,516 posts)Effective yesterday, we are alternating weeks between in the office and out. Personally, I think I'll be asked to work remote again next week once my company sorts out it's telecommunication issues due to the increased volume of traffic.
