Former Alabama Army major sentenced to prison for bribery scheme during Operation Iraqi Freedom al.c

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- A former U.S. Army major from Madison County today was sentenced to 12 years in prison by a federal judge for his conviction in a $2.9 million bribery and money laundering scheme related to defense contracts awarded in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
U.S. District Court Judge Virginia Hopkins also ordered that Eddie Pressley, along with his wife Eurica Pressley, are to forfeit $21 million in money, plus land, a vacation resort time share, and two vehicles. He is to report to prison Feb. 27, Hopkins ordered.
The approximately five-hour sentencing hearing was held at the Hugo L. Black U.S. Courthouse in Birmingham.

Government prosecutors had sought a sentence of 310 years.
During the approximately 5-hour hearing Sprung had said that the bribery scheme was some of the most "egregious war profiteering" seen during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
