The virus won't cancel 2020 election but

civil unrest will. Self isolating will work for a few weeks, maybe a month. After that, not so much. As people become desperate and in many cases- dire, the shit will hit the fan. Social services will break down, govt structures will buckle and economic situation will worsen. If you think people can simply sit inside for 3 months, your foolish. It's one reason you see people grabbing guns and ammo. A week in and some shelves are empty. What about 90 days from now? Desperate people do desperate things. I'm less worried about a virus, that your probably not going to die from, than I am economic and social collapse. The govt is going to save you

1. Society didn't collapse as a result of the 1918 influenza pandemic

and that killed an estimated 50-100 million people worldwide.

> A week in and some shelves are empty. What about 90 days from now?

Production and distribution ramps up, more stores put limits on purchases to prevent someone from buying everything, people have a few weeks of food and toilet paper at home and panic less and the stores fill up again. How much food do you really think people want to have at home?

3. That's true

but rather than civil unrest, I predict that hopelessness will settle in, in place of any sort of social agitation. People will have lost so much, so fast, that they will be stunned more than anything else.

21. Post WW1, there were plenty of guns available. Also

Machine guns were still able to be purchased OTC at that time, no restrictions, registration or background check.

6. Let's see where we are come April 15th.

We can't go on like this until May. It's getting harder to live every single day. And after the 30 days are over, let's see where we are at before the sky falls. We're still a long way off from civil unrest. Yeah we've seen incidents here and there but we're a long way off from even the smallest of communities being a war zone.

7. When In Danger

or in doubt,
run in circles, scream and shout!
The sky is falling!!

Sounds like a bad movie plot

Chill out.

12. It struck me today

That those who sewed hopelessness and doom during WW2 likely would have been pilloried by the community and social circle. And for good reason.

17. Inclined to agree with you OP

I think it'll take longer though...a couple of weeks isn't it. When the money starts running out and bills still need to be paid then it's going to start turning ugly.

22. Doubt it.

The election will go on. Our society is capable of hunkering down for a couple of months.
