You are right, he hasn't practiced in years except at some photo ops.

His dad Ron Paul was even a bigger fool, and an unapologetic racist.

in disorders and infections besides the eyes. A lot of infections get transmitted through the eyes. A lot of systemic disorders can be detected in eye exams.

So he should understand transmission well. However, he and others in DC apparently did not anticipate it reaching them. Don't know why they would not be expecting it though, considering the amount of international travel there.

I. can't. laugh. anymore.

I have not laughed in over 3 years. Seriously.

This is a medical (psychological) condition. Medical professionals suggest pharmacological interventions...to blunt my perceptual reality and alter my conceptualization of it. RESIST.

But here's the point: these "small gubmint," "rugged individualist," or so-called "libertarian" types are anathema to our moment. This moment demands the opposite of individualism and narcissism. We require a communitarian perspective that balances individual responsibility relative to the community--emphasis on community.

Consistent with their self-centered conception of "freedom," Paul and his type have every right to believe what they believe. Fine. This nation is spacious enough that they have their own special place to live free and die--maybe carve out a small corner of the Bundy's domain in Nevada for these selfish assholes--and leave the rest of us alone.

I can't laugh anymore. But I can still smile.

Looking at beautiful pictures of Jaipur. I wanted to go to India this year.
Its a rollercoaster in isolation.
But i did procure some N95 masks and surgical masks for my best friend whos a nurse. She had just 1 last week as a ration. This happened through a long chain of people coming together who care, but dont know her personally.
It felt good and lifted my spirits.

Im driving to the state next door this week where she is. The trip wouldnt be happenibg now one bit, except a death in my family.

Jeff retweeted this quote. This guy is quite astute and funny and i may follow him. I saved this.
Your individualism comment remined me.

Thanks for the welcome.

When we thought no president could be worse than him. Little did we know. Finally joined two years ago. We wanted to visit them last year but I didn't have enough vacation days saved. So we decided to do it this year. Oh well. I'll just have to hold on to those days awhile longer. Stay safe.

Because she's 80, and the reality is she won't be as spry as she still is forever. She looks and acts like someone in her 60s, and we wanted to take advantage of that while we could. Now that window has closed, and we don't know for how long--or if it's permanent, given her age.

We didn't plan something quite as exotic as going overseas, only a Presidential Library/Civil Rights History tour between Texas and at least Georgia, but still, it sucks that we can't go now.

I love that. Im my moms caregiver and shes 78 so this short trip is giving me concerns.
She taught English and history and took road trips like that all the time with her friends. I was always envious of the summer trips. There is a window youre right.
I hope there can still be for you both later.
Maybe a year of this if we are lucky.

I salute you and your spirit, Leigh. These are challenging times, and you are an extraordinary person to think of others and their needs--like your best friend. That is a beautiful thing, and I hope you can find something--anything--to help your friend through this. We are all in it together.

I wanted to go back to India this year, but I guess I'll have to be patient. I spent 4 months in India--alone--as an independent student in 1983. Mainly in Punjab (Patiala), but I took buses to other parts. The people in every place were incredibly warm and welcoming...Chandigarh, Simla, Amritsar, Jullunder, Agra, Khajuraho... but those in the vibrant state of Rajasthan--Jaipur and Ajmer in particular--literally wrapped their arms around me and offered me a place to stay. It is also a place that reminds us of our need to be as good as we can to others, and that "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few...or the one."

Peace and love be yours, leigh.
