Ive never seen them engage in such a terse and rapid hand off. Thanks you, Rachel. Certainly. And that was it! Wonder what that was about?

(1,257 posts)conditions are not optimal than in the studio. I've noticed a lot of less than seamless timing on MSNBC.
It's OK with me, as long as everyone stays safe.

(86,559 posts)just to bring us the news, I don't care so much about the quality as the substance. As long as they are dedicated to bringing us information we need to know, I don't care about smooth transitions so much as I care about getting the information at all.

(17,646 posts)Of covid -19 and left a family behind. His name was David. He was warm and smart and funny. New York is ground zero and I want Rachel to live.
She told about him and showed pics at the end of an episode last week or so. You could hear in her voice during the photos that she was very emotional and who wouldnt be? The camera cut back to her, which Im sure she wished they didnt, and she was weeping.

(61,694 posts)then there might be timing delays, etc. Nicolle Wallace and her guests were tripping all over each other today. The producers are probably having them hand off rapidly.

(2,426 posts)Are you the light-hearted content censor? Some here may have forgotten: humans discuss subjects with different degrees of weightiness. I started a new thread for this discussion. If it doesn't interest you, don't comment. We are all mature enough here to know when to comment and when not to. At least I thought so when I posted it.

(43,174 posts)I was just saying the reason that Lawrence and Rachel might not have had their normal friendly change over was because the news has been very serious and grim, and they might not have been in the mood for it.
Wasn't attacking you, was just making an observation/weighing in.
Why you somehow took offense to this observation....?
Trueblue Texan
(2,426 posts)But in case youre not familiar with Rachel and Lawrences typical handoff...its not necessarily lighthearted, but full of interesting discussion of the most pressing subjects they are covering. Its usually a great lead in to Lawrences show. I have never seen them do an open and shut hand off like last night. It was very strange. Im sorry if I took offense where none was intended. An earlier post thought it was silly to remark on it. I cant help but wonder, given these strange times were in, if there was something meaningful about the way they handed off last night. I guess Ive just become conditioned to the daily axe falling in the current administration.

(21,675 posts)But my impression was that Lawrence was in a serious mood, and just very into what he was going to say and was ready to say it. Yes, they often chat a bit before the handoff, but not always. YMMV

(81,220 posts)They ARE in different studios - I think he's in L.A. and she's in New York. And she's in some separate studio in New York (maybe something they worked up for her at home?) that she already said last week that she was trying to get used to.
I've noticed that there are now some noticeable and awkward gaps between the main anchor in main studio (NYC?) asking a guest a question, but the guest isn't in studio with the anchor. The guest is out, very often now sequestered at home and working or reporting via Skype. And there's always a delay anyway, but in this case, there's also audio levels that skip in and out and earpieces that don't work or fit well, and it's all being done from home.
And there's something else, too. I suspect, back in the main broadcast studio, there's probably also some absenteeism among key people in the control room, technical director and audio engineers, as some of them find out they've been exposed and have to stay home, or maybe they're ill themselves. So you've often got second-stringers and vacation-relief folks in there trying to make things go smoothly, when there are all these new technical variables to deal with and/or get around, and they may not be that familiar with it. And they CERTAINLY aren't old hands at coping during a crisis like THIS, no matter how experienced they are. The New York-based media snapped back in a few days, in the 9/11 aftermath. But THIS is different. It's not gonna be over in a week. There's lots of missing personnel, self-quarantining at home.
You're also dealing with stressed-out people who are worried about Mom or Dad or Grandma or kids or spouse or friends or whoever - as well as the missing coworkers they care about, also. And everybody's worried. Fatigue can start setting in. I worked with people who'd work til they dropped. Earthquake coverage and big elections - they'd be running 18-20 hours nonstop, grabbing naps in the bureau rather than driving all the way back home from downtown L.A. up to Quartz Hill (WAY up in the Antelope Valley - that drive was actually about two-hours one way).
And when you're tired and stressed, and you're probably not drinking enough water or getting enough nourishment because you may be too busy to eat regularly, your resistance goes down, and then you're more vulnerable.
Anyway, LONG drawn-out speculation about Rachel and Lawrence. I'm sure they're both still fine, and fine with each other. It's just the technical stuff, the transitions, and they're both probably worried about people they care about, too.
