I decided

To work on my sewing skills. Want to beef them up so I can start making masks. Want to make straight tight seams and sew down thin strips of elastic correctly. And fix the tension on my machine again.Once I get better with all that, I'll look for a good mask pattern and get sewing. Probably going to make 2 layers the outside of the mask will be pillowcase type material,on the inside will be T Shirt material. Dunno how much material I'm saving up already allocated for projects..some I have I know hasn't been allocated. Gotta dig out my fabric box and see how much I have.

Thanks to DU for the post about making masks.

1. Is there a hack if you don't have elastic?

2. 2 ties would be better.

Elastic may go bad depending on how long they are stored and/or sterilized.

But one tie to fasten andhold the top of the mask and one for under the chin and keep them taught means that we can untie the top one to get cooler air and still keep the nose and mouth covered with the bottom still tied.

Any excess will surely be saved in case the autumn erupts again.

3. Cool idea

I have seen masks with adjustable earloops too.

Question how long out from the mask should the ties be? I have no idea.

I got a little nifty tool that will make any fabric into bias tape.Perfect for ties! Plus found a few packs of premade bias tape.
