Words fail me.
They think there should be no lockdown, because in the long term, hundreds of thousands of
people dying is going to be nothing compared to another depression.
They think it makes sense to go back to work, because the amount of people who will
kill themselves if they lose their jobs, will be more than what Covid 19 can kill.
They're serious and think Trump is right to open at Easter and the experts are wrong.
This is why Trump still has support, no matter what happens these people will vote for him.

(1,148 posts)...but that could change, due to the progress of the virus in Illinois.
We've agreed in my family to spend a small Easter at home.
I've been looking into online group activities we could do as an extended family instead.
Easter should just be "cancelled". Go to an online service if you're a Christian, and find ways to celebrate with your extended family online.
I have a feeling Easter-ish is going to be too soon.

(561 posts)Republicans will vote for Trump, no matter what, that's a given. He's suppose to give updates on the virus, and it's turns into another rally for himself. "How the media wants him to fail, "how it's "a two way street" for Governors begging for life saving equipment, have to be "nice" to him. It's unreal, people are actually dying, and it's still all about him. He wants even more people to die, to be sacrificed for the economy, and that's just fine with his supporters, they are no longer so "pro life" when it comes to their wallets.
I just wish Bernie and Joe could sit down together and figure out a plan of action, because the infighting between their supporters isn't going to benefit anyone. Despite the mess Trump has made of this crisis, his approval rating is going up? If it is, we are in deep trouble.
Republicans would like nothing more than to see our party fracture, and pit one side against the other. The result will be people not voting or going 3rd party, and then Trump wins.
So please, let's make peace, show each other some respect, and let bygones be bygones, or we are going to get 4 more years of Trump.

Ireland just Nationalized Healthcare.
There is a 10 year old girl sewing 20 masks a day.
I have a garden and share my produce, a neighbor shares her eggs.
The time is ripe for co-operative co-creation. It's sort of like after the SF earthquake and the freeway in Oakland collapsed, the local residents crawled up and helped folks out of their vehicles. So far we are still survivors.
For myself, I'm grateful I have a garden I can go work in and take myself from my obsession with news.

(3,131 posts)I think the daily death tolls in 3 weeks are going to make it painfully obvious. Ironically some places that locked down early might have flatter increases. But the daily will be appalling and the places that locked down late will be high.
So why do it? Make the market go up temporarily. In my opinion. That and trump believes bluffing and bluster are the solutions to everything. Mother Nature isnt going to listen.
The really awful thing is its an excuse to not do everything possible to make it better. We should be fully mobilized to ramp up healthcare capability by creating units, generating protective gear and ventilators. Getting more staff if possible using national guard or training up people with some experience.
Its also horrible because it makes people less likely to isolate. That means well be worse of than we could have been mid april.
My opinions only. I should probably not speculate and will self delete if others think i should.

(6,640 posts)drumpish believers will do to the country because they just don't get science. (they probably think science and political science are the same thing) Perhaps the end result of this will be a blue wave and a national health service like the UK has. rich people over there can still find their own private doctors and pay them, so why can't that happen here?

(63,221 posts)I'm serious. I am more afraid of these idiots than I am of Covid-19. At least I have half a chance at surviving the virus.

(2,741 posts)Finally gets it and realizes they might very well die if they dont isolate.
And thats likely to take a few more weeks from now when the rate of people dying is as bad as Italy and when the hospital sytem has largely fallen apart due to so many health workers either getting sick or running in fear because they can do little to help, yet are at a ridiculous risk if they keep working. Remember, there is no cure, and there well be a huge shortage of respirators. They are already saying people coming in are coming in sicker than before. The futility is bound to take a toll after weeks of risking their lives for a country full of people unwilling to give up their freedom, even temporarily.

(51,512 posts)Like this 45 year old Republican lawyer who thought Coronavirus was bullshit, so he went to Mardi Gras, where he proceeded to catch Covid-19. He's been on a ventilator for over a week. Not looking good.

(2,849 posts)and I checked out face____. I was shocked. Someone was complaining we wouldn't pass the bill (with the slush fund) so that everyone could get $1000. I didn't reply to him but liked a reply post and replied to it. (Just asking why are some in favor of Corp-welfare?) He came to my page with Baaaa Baaa baaa, In reply to the Al Franken piece "The President is Crazy" he claims Al is full of shit. I've been on a run posting news I find on DU. I wait to see if he reads LUCKYCHARMS "Ya know, what's the f______ deal here?"
Hang in there, I hear we need to learn to invite them to the table, but I haven't learned the spell that would have them play well with others.

(3,635 posts)if we fail to follow the advice of medical experts to flatten the curve.
If we do as the RW/Trump wants, people would be dying in the streets, many more sick, and the depression would be longer and deeper.
Covid 19 is not the flu. The flu has a 0.1 mortality rate and we have vaccines for it. Covid19 has a 3% mortality rate and we lack a vaccine or any prior immunity to it (is a new virus) thus it could kill millions.
