Don't Need That $1,200 Stimulus Check? Here Are Places to Donate It.

The federal government approved a $2 trillion stimulus package, which includes direct payments to millions of Americans to help get through the coronavirus outbreak. If you donít need the money, here are some ideas to help you give it to someone in need.

Congress passed a sweeping $2 trillion stimulus package on Friday, its most drastic measure to date to throw a buoy to the American economy that is sinking under the coronavirus outbreak. Included in the legislation is an expansion of unemployment benefits, lending programs for small businesses and direct support for large and small companies. But lawmakers also agreed to send $1,200, starting in April, to millions of Americans, including those with incomes up to $75,000. Families would receive an additional $500 per child.

For many Americans, this could be an essential lifeline for keeping their families fed and housed during the outbreak and the resulting economic turmoil. But not all Americans need that extra cash to tide them over until this outbreak passes. If you are looking to give this money to those who need it most, you may want to consider an organization that will directly help with the coronavirus relief effort ó one that provides food or helps with medical efforts.

Be sure to take care when choosing a charity. Most of the organizations listed here have been vetted by the watchdogs Charity Navigator or CharityWatch. You can also consider giving to local businesses and families in need directly. Or helping your neighbors in ways that are not necessarily monetary.

Here are a list, no means exclusive, of some charities and nongovernmental organizations on the front lines of the outbreak.

2. All that you have to do is circulate it back into the economy

Itís that simple. Charities are good, but so is grocery shopping or having your favorite restaurants deliver food. It keeps them in business.

5. If you donate to your local food pantry they will spend it to help your neighbors :)

Up until this week my 85 year old mom volunteers at hers. Even before the pandemic they were struggling with more and more families needing help.

She and her co-volunteers. all older elderly people, got to stay home this week as the boy scouts came in and took over for them. I am breathing a little easier.

6. Friends

We have young friends who are hurting right now because of loss of income. We probably won't get a check, but if we do we have discussed giving it to them.

7. If you are single, you only get no cheque if you make over 99,000 USD, 198,000 USD if married

in AGI and more than 218,000 USD if you have 1 or 2 dependant children. If you have 3 or more under 17yo dependent children, you can make the 218K or even a bit more and still get a cheque.

Even if you made zero USD AGI in 2018 and 2019, you still get a cheque, all you need to do is file a 2019 return.
