That's the reason Trump backed off. Not for some imaginary friend, or he suddenly found empathy after seeing bodies lined up at Elmhurst Hospital.
His campaign folks told him he is going to own these deaths. They told him No one is blaming him for the economy tanking, but they will blame him if he pushes to re-open businesses and and the infection rates go up and bodies start piling up. This is all political as usual.

Musing with Mrs GAC yesterday, I considered he no longer really cares whether he wins in November or not, because he truly hates this gig.
If he drops the tough guy talk to rile the suckers, I'll know I'm right.
When he stops worrying about his chances of flipping the middle, I think it's white flag time.
Not that the horserace isn't getting his juices flowing, but winning (getting less likely) means 4 more years of a job he hates, including the daily scrutiny that comes with it.
And, if the House looks safe for D's to maintain control, & the Senate either flips or gets closer, he'll be a paper tiger, & he'd hate that even further.
