President Donald Trump on Friday is reportedly set to hold an in-person White House meeting with top executives from some of the largest fossil fuel companies in the worldincluding Exxon Mobil, Chevron, and Continental Resourcesto discuss relief measures for the industry as the coronavirus pandemic tanks global oil demand.
Other chief executives set to attend Fridays meeting include Vicki Hollub of Occidental Petroleum Corp., David Hager of Devon Energy Corp., Greg Garland of Phillips 66, and Kelcy Warren of Energy Transfer, according to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported on the planned meeting Wednesday afternoon.
The meeting will come just over a week after Trump hosted a conference call with Wall Street and hedge fund titans.
Mr. Trump is unlikely to endorse direct federal aid or market interventions during Fridays meeting, the Journal reported, but may consider smaller actions including a waiver of a law that requires American vessels be used to transport goods, including oil, between U.S. ports. The president wants to show support, even if policy opinions are limited for now.

Or maybe they could have their meeting on some nice cruise ship?

(16,254 posts)Too bad he doesn't act as quickly with supplying states with the PPE they need, not to mention the ventilators. Forget oil, we have other more important issues to pay attention to. The oil companies have had too much help in the past. Let them dig up their own funds to get themselves out of trouble.

(11,885 posts)Those that commit to giving generously to his campaign fund will get relief, and that'll praise his actions publicly. Then he'll funnel some from it into his pockets. Those that won't, well just another excuse he will come up with for it. Corporations should be scared , he's doing what Putin has done in Russia to profit from, and he'll demand more in payments as time goes on. In this Putin model only the most corrupt are allowed to prosper, but he steals the rest of it. He'll use this crisis and stimulus for personal and political gain. Weaponizing a crisis shows his intent.
